At Liberty Woodland School, we believe young people deserve more from education. More opportunities to think independently, more meaningful learning, more individual attention and more space to develop into confident, capable young people.
We are looking for a confident, organised and enthusiastic Secondary Cover Supervisor to join our growing secondary team, working with students in Years 7โ11.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with teenagers, can establish a positive and purposeful classroom environment and would like to contribute to a genuinely different approach to secondary education.
We welcome applications from experienced Cover Supervisors, unqualified teachers, Early Career Teachers (ECTs), Teaching Assistants ready to take on classroom supervision responsibilities and graduates considering a career in teaching.
About Liberty Woodland School
Liberty Woodland School is an independent, co-educational school set within the beautiful surroundings of Morden Hall Park in South West London.
Our secondary students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, combining academic rigour with inquiry, critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning and real-world projects.
Our approach is built around a simple belief: strong academic outcomes and student wellbeing should reinforce one another, not compete.
With small classes, close relationships and an emphasis on developing independence, we ensure students are deeply known as individuals, supported to achieve highly and encouraged to become thoughtful, resilient and capable young people.
About the role
Your primary responsibility will be to provide classroom cover for absent secondary teachers, ensuring that students continue learning effectively and that the school's high expectations for behaviour, engagement and independence are maintained.
When classroom cover is not required, you will support the wider secondary team with maintaining well-organised, welcoming and purposeful classroom environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising classes across Years 7โ11 during teacher absence, ensuring students complete the learning activities provided.
- Establishing a calm, positive and productive classroom environment, with clear expectations for behaviour and engagement.
- Communicating instructions effectively and encouraging students to work independently, take responsibility and remain focused.
- Following lesson plans and resources provided by teachers, maintaining continuity of learning across different subjects.
- Managing classroom behaviour confidently, consistently and respectfully, in line with the school's ethos and policies.
- Providing feedback to teachers on lesson completion, student engagement and any relevant classroom matters.
- Supporting the organisation, presentation and upkeep of secondary classrooms and learning spaces when cover is not required.
- Assisting with classroom resources, displays, equipment and practical preparation as directed by the secondary team.
- Contributing positively to the wider life and culture of the school.
You will not ordinarily be expected to plan or assess lessons independently, although you should be comfortable delivering instructions, facilitating learning activities and taking responsibility for a class.
About you
We are looking for someone who combines warmth and approachability with confidence, professionalism and clear expectations.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with secondary-aged students, or the confidence and aptitude to develop this quickly.
- The ability to lead and manage a classroom independently.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, consistent and positive approach to behaviour management.
- Good literacy, numeracy and general academic confidence across secondary subjects.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to different classes, subjects and situations.
- A genuine interest in young people's education, wellbeing and personal development.
- Enthusiasm for working within a progressive, forward-thinking educational environment.
Previous classroom experience is desirable, but Qualified Teacher Status is not essential.
Above all, we are looking for someone who believes young people are capable of extraordinary things when they feel known, supported and appropriately challenged.
Why join Liberty Woodland School?
Working at Liberty is an opportunity to be part of a school that is actively rethinking what education can and should be.
We offer:
- Small classes where you can build meaningful relationships with students.
- A beautiful, nature-rich campus offering an inspiring alternative to conventional school environments.
- A warm, collaborative team committed to high-quality education and student wellbeing.
- Opportunities to gain experience of the International Baccalaureate and innovative, project-based teaching.
- A distinctive school week, with students attending MondayโThursday and Fridays dedicated to independent learning and staff development.
- A growing school where your initiative and contribution are valued.
