The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and reflective educator to teach MYP Design at Liberty Woodland School (LWS), developing

digital design, computational thinking, user-centred design and responsible technology. Our approach combines academic

ambition with inquiry, practical experience and meaningful connections to the wider world.

All MYP teaching positions are part-time. We particularly welcome candidates able and interested in teaching more than

one MYP subject group. Where appropriate, subjects may be combined to create a larger teaching role, subject to expertise

and school timetable needs.

  • Deliver engaging, ambitious and inquiry-led lessons for MYP Years 1–5 (school Years 7–11).

  • Plan concept-based units with clear inquiry, global contexts and approaches to learning, consistent with the IB MYP framework.

  • Support students of differing abilities and learning needs through responsive teaching, appropriate challenge and inclusion.

  • Promote student agency, independence, international-mindedness and the IB Learner Profile.

  • Contribute to interdisciplinary learning, outdoor experiences and authentic projects where they enhance learning.

  • Work positively with colleagues, families and the wider school community.

  • Develop digital design projects in which students research authentic needs, define design specifications, prototype and test digital solutions.

  • Teach appropriate digital tools and processes, potentially including coding, web or app concepts, interface design, digital media and iterative prototyping.

  • Help students evaluate usability, accessibility, ethics, sustainability and the impact of technology.

Essential

  • Relevant degree and recognised teaching qualification, or an appropriate equivalent teaching background.

  • Experience teaching secondary-age students, with strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high academic standards.

  • Relevant expertise in digital design, computing, design technology or a closely related discipline.

  • Confidence supporting students with digital tools and managing online safety, copyright and responsible use of technology.

  • Excellent organisation, communication and positive behaviour management skills.

  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusive education, student wellbeing and the LWS ethos.

Desirable

  • Experience with the IB MYP, inquiry-led curriculum planning and criterion-related assessment.

  • Interest or experience in outdoor learning, authentic projects and interdisciplinary teaching.

  • Capacity and enthusiasm to teach an additional MYP subject group.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum planning and teaching

  • Plan a coherent sequence of subject learning, with clear objectives, meaningful inquiry and suitable resources.

  • Teach well-structured lessons that combine secure subject knowledge with active, engaging learning.

  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary units and make purposeful connections with the natural environment and wider world.

  • Use adaptive teaching and appropriate learning support to help every student make progress.

Assessment and student progress

  • Use the published MYP subject-group objectives and criteria to design appropriate formative and summative assessment tasks.

  • Apply criterion-related assessment accurately, use evidence to make professional judgements and participate in standardisation as required.

  • Provide timely feedback and opportunities for student reflection, revision and improvement.

  • Keep accurate records of attainment and progress, using them to adapt teaching and communicate effectively with families

Professional contribution

  • Create a calm, respectful, stimulating and inclusive learning environment with high expectations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, attend relevant meetings and participate in professional learning, including IB MYP development.

  • Maintain effective communication with students, colleagues and parents or carers.

  • Support wider school activities and contribute to the ethos and values of Liberty Woodland School.

Subject-specific responsibilities

  • Develop digital design projects in which students research authentic needs, define design specifications, prototype and test digital solutions.

  • Teach appropriate digital tools and processes, potentially including coding, web or app concepts, interface design, digital media and iterative prototyping.

MYP assessment expectations

Plan learning and assessment with explicit reference to the four MYP Design criteria:

  • A: Inquiring and analysing

  • B: Developing ideas

  • C: Creating the solution

  • D: Evaluating

Use the current IB subject guide, relevant year-level objectives and achievement-level descriptors; provide evidence-based

feedback and support moderation/standardisation. The criteria above are subject-group labels and do not replace the

current published IB guide.

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of every student and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Follow school child protection and safeguarding procedures, reporting concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful learning environment, including appropriate supervision, risk assessment and safe use of subject-specific resources.
