Experienced Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer
We're delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a busy and well-regarded law firm, currently seeking an experienced Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer to join their in-house team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a numerate, detail-driven costs professional to take ownership of a varied caseload while also stepping into a mentoring role, supervising and guiding junior team members and feeding back on their work.
Our client is looking for someone highly organised with a sharp eye for detail and a solid grasp of Legal Aid processes.
You'll be comfortable working across case management systems and Microsoft Office, along with Costs Master, and you'll bring a proactive, self-motivated approach along with fresh ideas for streamlining billing processes.
This role is based in London but is also available on a remote basis.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Preparing and processing Legal Aid claims and inter partes bills
- Drafting legal aid bills accurately and efficiently
- Assisting with High Cost Case Plans (advantageous)
- Handling post-assessment work and implementing outcomes
- Liaising with and advising fee earners and support staff on cost-related matters
- Liaising with external Counsel, expert witnesses, and other third parties
- Uploading claims to the Legal Aid Agency
- Appealing reductions made on assessment where needed
- Maintaining compliance with billing procedures and case management systems
- Ensuring accurate reporting throughout
- Acting on feedback from monthly reviews with the Director in a timely manner

- Solid understanding of Civil Legal Aid billing procedures
- Experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer (desirable)
- Strong knowledge of Legal Aid Agency rules relating to costs
- Excellent analytical and organisational abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A self-motivated, professional approach and the ability to work independently
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and LEAP or similar case management systems
