This role provides dedicated analytical and technical capacity to the Liberty Mutual Reinsurance ("LM Re") underwriting business, embedded within the cyber team. LM Re is part of Liberty Mutual's Global Risk Solutions (GRS) division, within the broader Liberty Mutual Insurance Group — a Fortune 100 global insurer. LM Re provides reinsurance capacity across a broad range of commercial property and specialty lines, globally, with risk and exposure management and analytics at the core of the business.

An Exposure Management role working in close partnership with Underwriting, the role pairs technical cyber analysis with commercial understanding of the portfolio, ensuring exposure is effectively assessed, monitored and managed as LM Re grows its cyber book as a strategic priority. While the role is primarily dedicated to cyber, there may also be opportunities to contribute to exposure management and ERM work across other LM Re lines of business, offering additional variety and broader exposure across the wider portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Risk and Underwriting teams to ensure transparency into LM Re cyber risk and support effective exposure management.
  • Support modelling of LM Re Cyber accounts in latest vendor models and assess cyber portfolio composition, accumulations and emerging exposures to provide analytical insight into the portfolio and cyber pricing.
  • Communicate effectively with underwriters on the contribution of their class exposure to PML risk and the impact of portfolio changes to risk tolerances.
  • Monitor emerging risk and market trends, e.g systemic AI exposures, and their potential impact on the LM Re risk profile, escalating findings to the Exposure Management Director as appropriate.
  • Support the development of analytical techniques, processes and methodologies to ensure the organization has effective tools to evaluate and mitigate cyber risk.
  • Support cyber modelling validation to understand and evaluate the impact of model updates and revisions on outputs; communicate relevant insights to stakeholders.
  • Support the review and sense check of model outputs, working closely with underwriters to translate results into portfolio and account-level decisions.
  • Contribute to RDS (Realistic Disaster Scenario) methodology review and validation for cyber so outputs are understood and representative of the portfolio.
  • Support the LM Re cyber event response process, assisting with timely assessment of potential losses arising from major cyber loss events.
  • Other ad hoc assignments as may be required.

In virtue of your role’s prescribed legal entity responsibilities, you will be required to:

  • Undertake your role with due regard to the prescribed responsibilities and regulatory requirements associated with that role - which may require undertaking appropriate learning & development.
  • Take appropriate responsibility for legal entity management oversight to enable the effective response to regulatory enquiry and challenge.
  • Oversee and contribute to the ongoing maintenance and fostering of a healthy culture.

Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. business, maths, statistics, cyber security).
  • Knowledge of cyber insurance, the cyber insurance market, and a keen interest in cyber risk generally.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance and risk transfer analysis.
  • Experience within an exposure management team; prior focus on cyber preferred.
  • Experience of cyber catastrophe modelling is highly desirable.
  • Practical experience of portfolio roll-up, realistic disaster scenarios, implementing control frameworks, MI design and reporting preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and proven experience of utilising functions within Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of technical coding preferred, including SQL, R or VBA.
  • Experience of using and developing solutions via PowerBI is desirable.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively.
  • Ability to work independently whilst integrating into a time-critical business environment.
  • Efficient and organised, with a mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent business communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a range of audiences, and creative thinking to solve complex issues as they arise.
  • Experience coaching, training or managing individuals is desirable.
