Speciality Steel UK Limited, part of the GFG Alliance, are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager. The role will cover UK indirect taxes with a focus on VAT and Customs duties. It requires an inquisitive mind, attention to detail and the ability to use self-initiative. We are looking for an experienced person who has many years of experience in indirect tax at a global level. The UK Indirect Tax Manager will be an essential part of the SSUK Central Finance Team based in Sheffield, however, the role will also support all UK entities within the GFG Group. Location of the role will be remote working, with occasional travel to operating entities across the UK.

The Role of the UK Indirect Tax Manager:
Key Responsibilities:
- Indirect Tax Strategy: Development of the indirect tax strategy for and the provision of commercial indirect tax support and advice to the GFG Alliance.
- Implement changes in existing or new processes to drive the embedding of the strategy across the GFG Alliance in the UK.
- Improve finance teams and Business awareness of Indirect Tax and share knowledge across the GFG Alliance community in the UK.
- Provide guidance to the business on VAT transactions and compliance.
- Indirect Tax Compliance: First point of contact for HMRC correspondence and enquiries; help and assist the UK companies in relation to the contact and communication with HMRC.
- Ensure the GFG Alliance business arrangements in the UK are legally compliant and efficient from an Indirect taxes standpoint, highlighting and resolving all inconsistencies swiftly.
- Review of UK indirect taxes and computations prior to HMRC submission (quarterly/monthly).
- Contact for and establish contact to external advisors.
- Ensuring delivery of projects for indirect taxes in a timely manner.
- Keep up to date with relevant proposed and current indirect tax legislation in the UK.
- Assist with SAO reviews (UK) and ensure compliance with governance and regulations.
- Providing guidance in relation to VAT transactions and customs/import duties on shipments and intercompany transactions.
- Ad hoc advisory to various stakeholders within the business on various Indirect taxes.
Other:
- Actively assist with all projects as required by GFG group including M&A activity, transfer pricing advice and reorganizations for the business, producing technical reports/notes as appropriate.
- First point of contact for technical indirect tax queries.
- Maintaining and improving the indirect tax control framework.
- Collaborate with the Direct Tax Manager to ensure consistency across tax compliance and reporting.
Candidate Profile:
- ACA and/or CTA qualified with significant experience in corporate tax compliance/reporting.
- 5+ years experience in handling indirect tax (VAT, customs- and import duties and other tax experience is essential to the role).
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Experience with Making Tax Digital and VAT systems implementation.
- Experience of ERP systems, tax accounting and tax technology solutions would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT tax issues.
