The Role
Liberty Speciality Steels have an opportunity for a Chartered Engineer to undertake the role of Works Engineer at our sites in Stocksbridge and Brinsworth.The Works Engineer Plant is a lead role within the Engineering function reporting directly to the Head of Operations.
The jobholder is responsible and accountable for the cost-effective maintenance of all assets within Stocksbridge and Brinsworth to ensure the efficient operation and allow the business units to achieve their objectives.
The job holder will support Departmental Lead Engineers in developing effective shut down and major maintenance plans to ensure plant reliability and integrity.
The job holder will support and develop CAPEX plans across the sites in conjunction with the Works Statutory & Compliance Engineer to ensure plans and costs are appropriate to the demands of the business.
The job holder may also be required to lead and support separate business initiatives / projects and required, deemed necessary by the business.
The jobholder will identify improvement opportunities in maintenance & inspection processes using best practice and the most cost-effective solutions to achieve short and long-term goals.
The jobholder will support the Works Engineer Statutory & Compliance to ensure that all relevant inspections and fault rectification is completed to an agreed schedule, deputising accordingly.

The role will manage plant support functions including:
- Overhead crane maintenance teams
- Site structural and rail support teams
- Site utilities team and industrial cleaning / building maintenance teams
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring compliance to relevant Health & Safety standards and legislation, supported by, and supporting the Works Compliance and Statutory Engineer.
- Coach and develop direct reports. Monitor and improve performance through appraisal, performance management and personal development plans to ensure that their full potential is realised.
- Lead and support root-cause analysis processes within the engineering teams regarding failures and implementing countermeasures.
- Manage the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure relevant preventative maintenance routines are implemented to improve reliability & support compliance.
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, optimise resource allocation to maximise efficiency.
- Drive recruitment and training of all Engineering personnel aligned with the training and development function.
Knowledge & Experience
The jobholder will be a suitably experienced engineer, ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent, with multi-site and discipline engineering management experience. Preferably with or working towards a professional status (CEng, CMgr)
It is essential that the jobholder is people focused with a passion to develop teams into future leaders. They will have a proven ability of being self-motivated and a good communicator at all levels.
