An experienced plant-based engineer is needed to join Liberty\’s Stocksbridge facility to promote continuous improvement efforts and drive sustainable outcomes. Reporting to the Department Engineer, the engineer will lead the engineering function within their area, engaging with team members and technical specialists to provide engineering input. They will actively drive, monitor, and maintain the engineering blueprint, adhering to change and design control procedures. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively across various stakeholders to ensure optimal business outcomes.

The Role of the Section Engineer Downstream
- The role involves determining and allocating engineering resources and materials to meet plant operational and engineering requirements.
- It involves developing maintenance and inspection schedules, providing technical expertise to Production Management and Department Engineers, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and legislation. Safety standards are maintained, and safe working procedures are documented and implemented at all levels. Regular safety and housekeeping audits are conducted to encourage improved performance.
- The role also involves monitoring and controlling expenditure on spares, materials, and labour to keep within agreed budgets. It involves identifying and assisting in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes, resulting in continuous enhancement of engineering and production performance.
- Major Maintenance proposals and stop period schedules are developed and submitted, with responsibility for justification and full implementation.
- Organising and managing training and development of multi-discipline engineering teams and production personnel is crucial.
- The role also involves leading and assisting in project implementation of capital, revenue, and major maintenance schemes. Negotiating contracts, organising and controlling specialist contractors, and leading investigations to identify root causes and implement solutions to problems.
- Monitoring KPIs, identifying deviations from targets, and implementing corrective action are essential responsibilities. Compliance with requirements regarding thorough/conscientious recording of plant history (INFOR) is also crucial.
- Managing and developing Engineers and Craft teams is essential for meeting current and long-term business objectives. Performance management is necessary to address knowledge and skills gaps and ensure team effectiveness. A daily plan is developed from 24-hour review meetings, ensuring coordination of resources across disciplines.
Required of the Section Engineer Downstream
- The job requires an engineering qualification and at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or technical role.
- Experience in plant engineering within a heavy manufacturing environment, with exposure to bar straightening presses, realer straightening machines, surface grinding equipment, and extraction systems.
- Proven knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, particularly in high-force pressing and material handling applications. Strong technical understanding of mechanical engineering principles, asset care, and reliability-based maintenance.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills, ability to work with diverse stakeholders, understanding of risk management, Health & Safety legislation, strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, and experience with a CMMS (INFOR current system).
The Working Pattern of the Section Engineer Downstream
- The Section Engineer will work Monday to Friday 8 am- 4 pm. There is a requirement to work one in six weekends.
