The Role of the Process Control Technician is to provide technical expertise and maintain safe and efficient operations on the Liberty Speciality Steels Rotherham site.

Responsibilities:

  • Quality Assurance, maintenance, and development of a wide range of combustion, process control and inspection equipment and instrumentation.
  • Planned and reactive maintenance activities, in line with the company's asset management framework (CAMF), Statutory responsibilities, Plant histories.
  • Fault finding techniques, Delay analyses and the use of your own knowledge of process and plant.
  • Responsible for health and safety, applying risk identification and control techniques such as Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification.
  • Undertake and assist with the development of SIF procedures.
  • Carry out calibrations and ensure correct documentation.
  • Create reports/feedback on relevant Maintenance Management systems to ensure customer quality assurance.
  • Attend meetings to assist in the management and execution of energy saving initiatives, engineering planning, furnace efficiency improvements, furnace upgrades, process safety.
  • Assist project engineers during the installation of capital projects and equipment.
  • Communicate with and attain support from the central network, process systems and process control teams.
  • Support the development of Technicians, Graduates, and Apprentices to satisfy current and long-term Business objectives.
  • Become familiar with equipment, systems, and technologies through close contact with other departmental engineers and manufacturing personnel.
  • Specialise on certain designated items of plant or equipment while having a working knowledge of all plant and equipment across the department.

Requirements:

  • Qualified to ONC/HNC in an engineering discipline, preferably with an electrical based apprenticeship.
  • Practitioner knowledge of process control and its application.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety, health, safety, and environmental legislation including Process Safety.
  • Awareness of Process Hazards Analysis Methodologies, Hazard and Operability study (HAZOP).
  • Knowledge of quality standards, procedures, and auditing including ISO9001, TS 16949, AS9100, IS0 17025, and NADCAP standards.
  • Understanding of Process Systems, networks, and communications (SCADA, LAN).
  • Sound understanding and experience of Instrumentation and Control, Furnace Combustion and Control Equipment, Energy management, and combustion of fuels.
  • Experience with communications systems, CCTV, weighing systems, plant sensors/detectors, transducers and displays, PLC and PC systems.
  • Knowledge of Risk Analysis and Assessment Methodologies.
