As an Account Director, you are a commercially minded digital marketing consultant who plays a critical role in both the growth and retention of the agency’s most valuable clients. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on client leadership, confidently managing high-value accounts while identifying opportunities to increase revenue through upsell, cross-sell, and new business acquisition.

You will act as the primary strategic advisor for your clients, shaping marketing activity that delivers measurable ROI and helping clients achieve their commercial goals. You’ll also be expected to lead new business opportunities from pitch through to close, demonstrating confidence in presenting value-led proposals and building trust with senior stakeholders.

This is a role that requires autonomy, proactivity, and confidence in managing large and complex relationships. You’ll be responsible for translating business objectives into performance-driven marketing strategies, working closely with delivery leads and department heads to execute effectively, and proactively steering account direction.

In doing so, you’ll also support Liberty’s financial goals by achieving retention and growth targets across your portfolio, while also contributing to the agency’s new business efforts. You are expected to lead by example — showcasing best practice across strategy, client service, communication, and commercial thinking.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own and manage a portfolio of high-value accounts, delivering measurable results aligned with client objectives.
  • Design, lead and pivot digital marketing strategies in collaboration with delivery leads and heads, ensuring alignment with client business and marketing goals.
  • Deliver consistently high client satisfaction through proactive communication, strategic planning, and performance reviews.
  • Lead client meetings, Quarterly Strategic Reviews (QSR) and strategic discussions, positioning yourself as a trusted marketing advisor.
  • Manage expectations around performance, clearly defining “what good looks like” and aligning internal teams and clients accordingly.
  • Maintain and grow a Total Portfolio Value (TPV) target (£44k monthly TPV, £451k annual revenue) through strong retention and growth.
  • Proactively identify, pitch and close upsell and cross-sell opportunities, creating compelling business cases that demonstrate ROI.
  • Report accurately on commercial forecasting, contract start dates, and renewal confidence levels.
  • Ensure quality and consistency across all strategic documentation including pitch decks, QSRs, reports, proposals and SOWs.
  • Contribute to Liberty’s growth through successful pitches and new business wins.
  • Support team development by sharing knowledge, providing feedback and leading by example.
  • Uphold and contribute to Liberty’s processes, client health reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the resolution of any client performance or service issues, working cross-functionally to deliver solutions and safeguard relationships.

The Ideal Person

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a portfolio of retained marketing clients, with full accountability for commercial outcomes, within an agency environment.
  • Demonstrable track record of consistently retaining and growing revenue YoY through strategy led account management.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing strategy across channels, with hands-on experience in either agency or in-house environments.
  • Experienced in delivering marketing strategies that tie into client business goals, demonstrating real commercial impact.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining senior client relationships, marketing leadership and commercial stakeholders.
  • Confidence presenting complex ideas and strategies in a compelling and persuasive way, in person and virtually.
  • Comfortable pitching and closing new business opportunities, with experience contributing to proposals, decks and commercial forecasts.
  • Adept at interpreting performance data to tell a compelling story and make informed strategic recommendations.
  • Proactively identifies problems and opportunities before they arise, taking accountability for course-correcting when needed.
