I’m hiring for a thoughtful, commercially minded organisation working at the heart of international trade. Their mission is to be the go-to voice for all things import/export, growth and global commerce - and they need a Media Relations Lead who can build on the great coverage they already get and help them get front and centre in national and international news.
You’ll work closely with two very good humans:
- A Corporate Affairs Director who deeply values proactive people (he’s brilliant, fair and genuinely supportive).
- A CEO who is already excellent on air: articulate, energetic, knowledgeable and a regular interviewee. He’s the dream person to put in front of media, and the opportunities are abundant if you know how to create them.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading and delivering a proactive media strategy - not waiting for the phone to ring but getting out there and making it ring.
- Spotting opportunities and be able to demonstrate a history of doing so.
- Positioning the organisation as the first port of call for journalists covering trade, economics, policy and global business.
- Building and nurturing relationships with key reporters, editors and producers.
- Landing high-quality coverage across national, international and specialist outlets (broadcast included).
- Developing sharp, concise briefings that make spokespeople shine.
- Reacting to fast-moving events with skill, judgement and calm.
- Working cross-functionally on internal comms, events and wider campaigns.
- Monitoring and analysing coverage using tools like Vuelio and Politico Pro.
What we’re looking for:
- Someone hungry to make things happen, not simply manage an inbox.
- A proven ability to secure print and broadcast coverage (including global tier 1).
- A keen interest in international trade - no need to be an expert.
- Agency experience or similar fast-paced environment (hugely beneficial).
- Confident relationship-builder who knows how newsrooms really work.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex issues into compelling, digestible stories.
- Organised, calm under pressure and brilliant at prioritising.
