Who you’ll be working with: We are eager to find a Software Engineer to join our Analytics Tech engineering group. This role will focus on building experimental computer vision pipelines to improve underwriting analysis. Within this role you will help to train model pipelines, working collaboratively in a data‑science and engineering team.
Experience and skills we need:
- A third level qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or STEM subject and one year of post graduate software development experience in a commercial environment; or current and valid industry recognised certifications and three years software development experience in a commercial environment.
- Experience in agile software delivery (Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Experience in technical communication with peers and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience with AWS.
- Knowledge of MLOPS.
Experience and skills we’d love:
- Knowledge and experience of DevOps as part of Agile software development.
- Active participation in knowledge sharing activities, both within the team and with wider non‑technical audiences.
- Experience of building great software products with a customer‑centric approach and balancing technical decisions with user needs and commercial constraints.
What you’ll be doing:
- Be part of a team who are working to solve complex business problems by delivering high‑quality software that provides an outstanding experience for our customers.
- Write clean code in line with the team’s set standards.
- Own, scope and deliver well defined tasks or stories.
- Communicate and update your progress regularly at stand‑ups or similar agile events.
- Partner with data scientists to translate mathematical models and approaches into logical design, and convert data science prototypes into code capable of meeting user use cases.
- Collaborate closely and cooperatively with your technical and non‑technical teams to work towards the best solution that maximises value to the customer.
- Contribute to a culture of code quality and implement automated, unit and integration testing as part of the software development lifecycle.
- Apply good security processes such as threat modelling to the code you develop.
- Implement your team’s Engineering Excellence standards when creating solutions.
- Actively participate in deployment by reviewing Pull Requests from other team members and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Grow your knowledge of architecture, modern engineering principles and design patterns.
- Assess the business value of new technologies and technical solutions using a data‑driven approach and contribute to their adoption into the product life cycle.
- Supported by senior team members, seek opportunities to share and celebrate what you’ve learned through internal tech talks, blogging and external events.
- Develop and maintain AI/ML applications and systems in line with architecture and cybersecurity principles and guidelines.
- Train and retrain models by connecting relevant datasets and finetuning models based on test/user data; test and validate model outputs.
- Run technical testing (unit, regression, etc.), identify and resolve issues, and lead relevant reporting and stakeholder management.
- Visualise and assess data and identify factors that could impact model performance when deployed to users.
- Expand and enrich existing AI/ML libraries, frameworks, and principles.
- Ensure completion of any required documentation (e.g., deployment, maintenance, support & business needs).
