We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate Finance/Treasury. The Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate Finance/Treasury will act as a trusted legal and commercial adviser to Liberty Global’s Finance Department. The role will support the structuring, negotiation and execution of complex financing transactions, ensuring these are delivered efficiently, effectively and in line with Liberty Global’s risk appetite and governance framework. This role offers exposure to high profile international transactions across the Group and the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, including Liberty Global Treasury, M&A, Regulatory, Accounting, Financial Reporting, Tax and external counsel.

What will you be doing?

  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of financing and treasury matters, including high yield bonds, syndicated leveraged loans, vendor financing, intercompany loans, security/guarantees, derivatives and related documentation.
  • Transaction Management: Lead and project manage the legal aspects of financing transactions from origination to completion, ensuring execution within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Documentation: Draft, review and negotiate financing, security and related legal documentation to secure the best possible commercial and legal terms for the Group.
  • Stakeholder Management: Partner closely with internal stakeholders, including Treasury, M&A, Regulatory, Accounting, Financial Reporting and Tax teams, to ensure alignment and effective delivery of business objectives.
  • External Counsel Management: Liaise with and manage external legal advisers, trustees and financial institutions, ensuring quality, consistency and value for money.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks in relation to financing arrangements and treasury operations and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of legal, regulatory and market developments relevant to finance and treasury, providing proactive updates and practical guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Support wider corporate projects, M&A activity, and internal restructuring initiatives as required.

We tend to look for people with:

  • Essential: Qualified lawyer (England & Wales or other common law jurisdiction) with significant post-qualification experience in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Strong background in finance, treasury and corporate transactions, ideally with exposure to high yield bonds and/or syndicated leveraged loans.
  • Experience advising on cross-border transactions within complex international group structures.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple matters simultaneously and delivering outcomes under pressure.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to provide pragmatic, solution-oriented advice.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and credibility to influence senior stakeholders and external parties.
  • Self-sufficient, proactive and confident operating both independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Telecoms, technology, infrastructure or media sector experience advantageous but not essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management tools.
