Overview
We’re hiring a Defence Claims Specialist to join our Bradford-based team on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to work from the office two days per week.
You’ll be part of the Legal Operations Team at Liberty Blume, working within the Consumer Litigation Department. Your primary focus will be managing claims initiated by our consumer brands, as well as defending claims brought against them.
In this role, you’ll handle your own caseload using a case management system, supported by advanced legal technology designed to streamline and simplify your daily tasks.
All specialist roles benefit from the guidance of a dedicated Team Manager and Senior Manager, providing the support and development opportunities you need to grow and succeed in your legal career.
Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of low to mid-value claims across the Small Claims and Fast Tracks.
- Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing legal documents with precision and attention to detail.
- Preparing urgent applications where required.
- Attending mediations and settlement negotiations.
- Responding to ad hoc queries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Conducting due diligence checks and preparing detailed reports aligned with client expectations.
- Participating in meetings with key stakeholders and third parties.
- Supporting junior colleagues through feedback and training.
- Keeping up to date with legal developments, industry trends, and best practices.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships through excellent service and communication.
- Contributing to business development activities, including client presentations, marketing initiatives, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor or CILEX (NQ – 3 years PQE).
- Strong working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), relevant case law, and litigation processes.
- Proven experience in civil litigation.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with strong prioritisation and self-review capabilities.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload independently using legal technology and case management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving complex issues.
Desirable
- Experience in breach of contract and data protection disputes.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to gain client trust and understand their objectives.
- Confident and agile in adapting to new legal issues and challenges.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Commercial awareness and interest in contributing to business development efforts.
