As the VP, Tax - M&A you will lead the tax workstream across M&A, disposals, joint ventures, minority investments, restructurings, and corporate development transactions, ensuring Liberty Global executes deals efficiently, compliantly, and with optimal tax outcomes. This role blends hands‑on transactional structuring with strategic leadership of our central tax function, supporting senior executives across multiple jurisdictions, including Bermuda, the UK and our wider international portfolio.
What will you be doing?
- M&A & Transaction Leadership
- Lead the tax workstream on cross‑border M&A transactions, including acquisitions, carve‑outs, internal restructurings, JV formations, integration planning and post‑deal optimisation.
- Develop and deliver tax‑efficient deal structures, including financing flows, holding structures, IP migration, and integration‑ready operating models.
- Conduct and oversee tax due diligence, identifying risks, exposures and value‑creation opportunities.
- Partner with Corporate Development, Legal, Treasury and Finance to influence deal strategy from early‑stage evaluation through to signing and completion.
- Evaluate tax impacts of equity investments, venture deals and portfolio monetisation activities.
- Group Tax Strategy & Governance
- Manage LG Ltd’s consolidated Bermuda and UK tax profiles, including CFC rules, Pillar 2, BEPS and cross‑border capital movements.
- Identify global tax risks arising from deal activity or structural changes, advising senior leadership on mitigation options.
- Lead the design and implementation of group‑wide tax planning strategies that enhance after‑tax returns and long‑term enterprise value.
- Compliance, Controls & Reporting
- Ensure robust governance around all relevant tax compliance processes (in partnership with Blume and external advisors).
- Review and sign off on quarterly tax provisions, tax returns and related Long‑Range Plan tax modules.
- Maintain and strengthen transparent relationships with tax authorities across relevant jurisdictions.
- Transfer Pricing
- Develop and manage tax‑aligned transfer pricing strategies that support cross‑border transaction flows, intercompany financing, intangible arrangements, and post‑deal integration.
- Oversee TP documentation, audits and dispute management.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead a high‑performing central tax strategy team, promoting collaboration, technical excellence and continuous development.
- Build internal tax capability around transaction structuring and emerging tax technical developments.
- Manage and optimise spend on external tax advisers.
We tend to look for people with:
- Deep international corporate tax expertise, ideally developed in a deal‑heavy environment (Big 4 / major law firm / multinational).
- Proven experience leading tax structuring on complex transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of Pillar 2, BEPS, CFC, financing structures and cross‑border reorganisations.
- A track record of delivering tax‑efficient M&A solutions under tight timelines and high‑pressure scenarios.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to influence senior stakeholders, shaping deal outcomes at the earliest stages.
- Experience leading high‑performing teams within tax, finance or deal environments.
- Curiosity, entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence.
