We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our team in Leeds City Centre on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role, with two days in the office and three days working remotely each week. As Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the Engineering pillar, overseeing a high‑performing team focused on building new products and capabilities from the ground up – rather than maintaining existing solutions. The team is centred on greenfield development, platform extensions, and AI‑native tooling. You’ll spend the majority of your time on people leadership, delivery, and driving organisational clarity, with some hands‑on involvement where needed. While you won’t be coding day‑to‑day, you’ll bring strong technical credibility, confident reviewing architecture, setting engineering standards, and unblocking teams to ensure high‑quality delivery. Our core stack is GCP; we use GitHub Enterprise, Terraform, and GitHub Actions for CI/CD. Jira and Confluence for delivery management which is all managed by the Cloud Platform team.
What will you be doing?
- Lead, develop, and retain a high‑performing team of senior engineers
- Set clear expectations, run effective 1:1s, and provide candid feedback
- Own hiring end‑to‑end, including technical bar, interviews, and onboarding
- Drive delivery outcomes across scope, quality, pace, and predictability
- Translate product roadmaps into clear, actionable engineering plans
- Remove blockers quickly to maintain momentum and delivery pace
- Uphold high engineering standards across code quality, architecture, and CI/CD
- Contribute to architecture decisions and promote scalable, reusable design
- Champion GCP‑first, API‑first, microservices, and AI‑native approaches
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliant, aligned, and on‑track delivery
- Report to the Director of Engineering, Platform & AI and act as the voice of the Engineering pillar in cross‑functional forums
- Work closely with Security, GRC, Legal, and external partners to keep delivery compliant and unblocked
Essential
- Proven experience in software engineering, including leadership of senior IC engineers
- Strong track record leading build‑focused teams (greenfield or platform extensions), not just BAU
- Confident working with GCP or a comparable hyperscaler
- Experience delivering API‑first, microservices‑based solutions in production
- Strong hiring capability with experience building and scaling teams
Desirable
- Background in a tech‑first environment (e.g. BPO, FinTech)
- Exposure to AI/ML platforms (e.g. agent frameworks, LLM integration)
- Familiarity with enterprise procurement and vendor governance models
What’s in it for you?
- Competitive salary + bonus
- 25 days annual leave with the option to purchase 5 more
- Enjoy your birthday off, plus receive an additional 3 days of annual leave once you reach 5 years of service
- Access to wellbeing and mental health benefits such as the Calm app, personal medical, critical illness cover and dental insurance, plus many more
- Matched pension contribution up to 10%
- Access to our car benefit scheme
- Access to our online learning platform to continue to develop and grow your career with us
- The chance to join an innovative, fast‑paced and passionate team
