We’re looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our team in Bradford or Leeds on a permanent basis. This hybrid role offers flexibility, with two days in the office and three days working remotely.
As a cloud-native organisation, our hyperscaler platform is the foundation of every product we create and every customer experience we deliver. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our GCP estate - making the platform a true enabler for rapid product innovation. You’ll lead a multi-disciplinary Platform Engineering team spanning CI/CD, networking, security, AIOps, and observability. Your mission: build a robust, automated, self-service platform that empowers engineering squads and drives the company’s technology-led transformation.
What will you be doing?
- Lead and grow a hybrid team of around 10 Platform Engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, automation, and high performance.
- Take full ownership of the GCP platform, including infrastructure design, lifecycle management, cost optimisation, and operational excellence.
- Drive security and compliance across the platform, collaborating with the central Security team to ensure all assets align with company policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
- Define and uphold quality standards by embedding QA, test automation, and validation into platform services to guarantee accuracy, stability, and data integrity.
- Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date documentation covering infrastructure, standards, runbooks, and operational processes.
- Actively contribute to agile delivery, working within a Scrum team to design, build, and iterate on platform products and services.
- Establish and track key platform metrics such as availability, deployment frequency, MTTR, security posture, and cost efficiency.
- Champion platform engineering best practices across the organisation, including GitOps, Infrastructure as Code patterns, environment standardisation, and golden paths.
We tend to look for people with:
- Proven experience leading high-performing Platform or DevOps teams, including managing offshore or partner resources.
- Hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Demonstrated success in commercial DevOps or Platform Engineering roles, building automated and reliable infrastructure at scale.
- Strong proficiency in CI/CD design and ownership, ideally with tools such as GitHub Actions, Terraform, Cloud Build, or similar.
- Solid understanding of networking, security fundamentals, IAM, VPC design, and cloud governance.
- Skilled in debugging using logs, traces, and observability tooling (e.g., Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, OpenTelemetry).
- Demonstrated experience with microservices and API-driven architectures, ideally within data-centric or event-driven environments.
- GCP Professional-level certification.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, product-led environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
What’s in it for you?
- Competitive salary.
- 25 days annual leave with the option to purchase 5 more.
- Enjoy your birthday off, plus receive an additional 3 days of annual leave once you reach 5 years of service.
- Access to wellbeing and mental health benefits such as the Calm app, personal medical, critical illness cover and dental insurance, plus many more.
- Matched pension contribution up to 10%.
- Access to our car benefit scheme.
- Access to our online learning platform to continue to develop and grow your career with us.
- The chance to join an innovative, fast-paced and passionate team.
