We use data to help partners understand their customers’ real-time needs and tech to offer tailor-made funding and financial products. The team Legal at Liberis exists to help the business go faster—safely. Our mission is to navigate legal and regulatory challenges, reduce risk, and unlock opportunities, all while making sure we don’t become a bottleneck. We’re focused on empowering our colleagues to self-serve where they can, so the business can move at pace, with confidence.
As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll work closely with the General Counsel to help shape and deliver the legal strategy across the business. This is a broad and high-impact role where you’ll balance strategic input with hands-on delivery—managing legal operations, supporting fast-paced projects, and providing sharp, business-savvy legal advice across a variety of areas. You’ll own the negotiation and drafting of key commercial contracts, advise on regulatory and product matters, lead day-to-day legal queries, and take the reins on governance and compliance responsibilities. You’ll also manage a team of one and work cross-functionally to ensure legal is seen as an enabler, not a blocker. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys both the complexity of legal strategy and the satisfaction of seeing projects through to execution in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Partnering with the General Counsel to shape legal strategy and priorities
- Drafting and negotiating major commercial partnership contracts
- Delivering internal training on key legal topics to support self-service across the business
- Advising on regulatory matters, especially around product development and innovation
- Running the legal service desk and providing clear, timely advice to internal teams
- Leading legal budget management and evaluating external counsel value
- Supporting new country launches and managing local counsel relationships
- Overseeing group corporate filings and company secretarial duties
- Collaborating with the DPO and wider teams on GDPR compliance, data queries, and diligence
- Driving visibility and effectiveness of the legal function through process improvements and team initiatives
- Leading legal ops—streamlining workflows, implementing tools, and owning knowledge management
- Reviewing contracts, updating templates, and building scalable legal resources
- Working with external counsel on international matters where needed
- Owning and executing fast-moving projects, often with tight deadlines
Who We’re Looking For
You’re a qualified lawyer (5+ years PQE) with a strong background in contract review, analysis, and some drafting. Ideally, you bring in-house experience—especially in tech, fintech, or SME lending—and are confident navigating a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You have a commercial mindset and know how to translate legal complexity into business-friendly advice. You’re highly organised, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing workstreams with tight deadlines (like filings or company secretarial duties). You thrive on process, enjoy operationalising legal work, and are passionate about continuous improvement—possibly with a keen interest in legal tech. You anticipate legal risks and offer practical, strategic solutions to mitigate them. You’re someone who’s approachable, collaborative, and curious. You’re eager to work cross-functionally, understand business pain points, and connect the dots between legal work and broader company strategy. You’re adaptable, resilient, and unafraid to step outside your comfort zone to learn something new. You’re a team player who values a positive team culture, knows when to roll up your sleeves, and sees every task—big or small—through to completion. Equally, you believe that hard work should also be fun!
