The Role
To deliver expert legal costs services within a dynamic, high‐performing team led by an inspirational Costs Director. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high‐value personal injury and clinical negligence matters (ranging from £100k to multi‐million-pound cases) in a no‐targets, quality‐driven environment. You will contribute to the full lifecycle of costs work — from drafting bills and budgets to negotiating settlements — while collaborating closely with a collegiate, forward‐thinking team. The position is designed for professionals who thrive in a transparent, supportive culture that values direct responsibility, client excellence, and progressive thinking in legal services.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing costs schedules and drafting bills of costs and advising on recoveries
- Preparing replies to points of dispute in complex high value Claimant Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury cases
- Preparing costs budgets
- Negotiating budgets and overall settlements
- Liaising with other costs team members and the wider costs team
Requirements
- A minimum of 3–5 years' experience as a law costs draftsman or costs lawyer
- Strong track record in drafting bills of costs and conducting detailed assessments
- Proven ability to draft, negotiate, and settle costs budgets (Precedent H)
- Confidence in client‐facing situations, with a focus on building long‐term professional relationships
- Advocacy experience at costs hearings and assessments (desirable but not essential)
