Job Title: Campaign Organiser and Communications Officer

Working For: Liz Jarvis MP (Eastleigh) /Eastleigh Liberal Democrats

Salary: £26,000-£30,000 depending on experience with review after 6 months

Length of Contract: Permanent

This is a great opportunity to join the Eastleigh Liberal Democrats combined with working for Liz Jarvis MP. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to play a leading role in our team through a defining period of growth and electoral success.

Eastleigh is a successful local party with a large majority council group that has controlled the Borough Council since 1994. You will work for Eastleigh Liberal Democrats organising campaigns and volunteers for success in local and national elections and for Liz Jarvis’s Parliamentary office to support non-party political media and provide innovative communications output. In 2027 Hampshire is undergoing local government reorganisation which provides the opportunity to work on the unitary campaign for South West Hampshire and liaise with other local parties in the new unitary.

This role puts you at the centre of shaping and delivering winning campaigns.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take their first or next steps in a career in politics or campaigning. You need to be motivated, well organised and able to take on responsibility with a ‘can do’ attitude.

You will receive full training and ongoing support, working alongside some of the party's most experienced campaigners, councillors and our MP.

As Campaign Organiser you will:

  • Build campaigning and organisational capability, including assisting with recruiting members and volunteers.
  • Manage and maintain the team of volunteers across all aspects of campaigning, including running canvassing sessions and facilitating leaflet delivery
  • Organise and review the campaign plan.
  • Contribute to the literature planning including design, input to copy editing, proofing and approval, and arrange print and distribution of regular artworked leaflets, direct mail letters and emails to members, supporters and voters.
  • Plan and support fundraising, including campaigns and events.

As Communications Officer you will:

  • Produce press releases, liaise with media outlets, meeting deadlines as appropriate.
  • Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency.
  • Produce online graphics, video content, and a weekly newsletter.
  • Closely follow local media coverage and issues that impact the MP’s work.

Essential skills:

  • Well-organised and motivated person.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working with a diverse group of people in busy working environments.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivation and able to manage your own workload.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Understand current issues within UK politics.
  • Sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.
  • Ability to be in Eastleigh Borough and travel around the area
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat campaigns.
  • Experience in website development and maintenance and using social media such as Facebook and Instagram
  • Experience producing high-quality graphic for social media and leaflets with knowledge of Photoshop, Affinity, or Canva.
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases, including Connect, Fleet, EventCube and Lighthouse.
