Salary: £29,000 – £35,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)

Length of Contract: Until May 2027

Job Details: Lead campaigning in one of the Lib Dems most successful local parties. We hold a significant majority on Bath & North East Somerset Council (with 39 councillors) and the MP for Bath. We are seeking a manager to lead our operation through to the May 2027 local elections, to defend our Council majority and build campaign capacity.

Role Required:

  • Managing a team of three Campaign Assistants and many volunteers, you will oversee the strategy, literature, and "ground war" required to keep us winning.
  • Experience supervising staff and motivating volunteer teams.
  • Ability to design high-quality literature and write persuasive copy that wins votes.
  • Experience managing complex projects/budgets in a fast-paced political environment.
  • Driven to deliver electoral success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Campaign Management: Implement the plan agreed with the Campaign Team. Organise canvassing teams, delivery networks, and clerical sessions. Ensure literature is designed, printed, and delivered on time. Use our database to target voters effectively and report on progress.
  • Staff & Volunteer Leadership: Supervise junior staff, providing day‑to‑day direction, training, and support. Recruit, train, and retain a diverse team of volunteers. Be the main point of contact for councillors and activists. Organise regular action days and social events to build team spirit and momentum.
  • Comms & Design: Design high-quality leaflets, letters, and tabloids using publishing software. Draft compelling copy that translates complex local issues into persuasive messages for voters. Oversee digital channels, ensuring our social media and websites align with wider campaign strategy.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with Council Group leadership, MP for Bath, and PPC for NES&H. Assist with local fundraising efforts.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple projects at once.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading volunteer teams.
  • Excellent written English and strong proofreading skills.
  • Competence with MS Office and standard software.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of Lib Dems.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Affinity Publisher, Adobe InDesign, or similar.
  • Previous political campaigning (staff or voluntary).
  • Familiarity with Lib Dem software.
