About the Role
You will be responsible for ensuring the designated product range is delivered on time and that the quality is fit for purpose and meeting full specification. You will support the Technical manager to deliver specified quality standards and work closely with the product and design teams to deliver a commercial range that maximises sales and profit opportunities. You will be an experienced all-round Casual Outerwear Garment Technologist with a strong understanding of fabrics and performance. You will also be required to cover all relevant departments including adult and childrenswear.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Ensure product performance requirements are established and maintained through supplier up skilling, testing and monitoring
- Agree manufacturing methods are achievable in bulk production, resulting in products that will perform to all relevant standards
- Apply appropriate methods of communication with supply base, showing initiative and creative thinking where necessary to solve problems
- Prepare fit comments / size specs and graded size specs for the factory further to customer fit comments/ internal fit comments
- Working closely with the Outerwear department to prepare sample specs and patterns/ diagrams as necessary
- Undertake supplier visits to improve quality standards, improve working relationships and increase personal knowledge of manufacturing capabilities
- Any other tasks that could be reasonably expected including FE factory travel
- Strong technical expertise and able to conduct and lead fit sessions
Key Skills / Experiences:
- The ideal person must have previous Garment/Fabric Technologist QA/QC/ PD experience working at an advanced level, ideally for a fashion supplier or High Street retailer
- Thorough knowledge of garment construction, pattern cutting techniques and the fitting process
- Strong knowledge of fabric testing standards and care labelling for Outerwear (Mens, Ladies and Children’s wear)
- Highly organised and efficient
- PC literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office packages, PLM / Centric an advantage
- Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of developing product for fit, quality and performance
- Knowledge of garment wash techniques/ processes
- A good understanding of fashion retail processes and garment production systems
- Ability to see the big picture without losing sight of the details
- Strong communication and influencing at all levels
- Good planning and organisational skills, able to change plans in line with business needs
- Ability to effectively risk analyse product
- Degree Level (relevant discipline)
- Creative, passionate and innovative
- Commercial understanding of the market and experience of working with a global supply chain
- Interested and understands Sustainability
- Expert knowledge of consumer product safety requirements to understand and interpret relevant legislation that ensure compliance in a way that is commercial but ensures adherence to legal requirements
- Adaptability to learn other systems/developments
