We are currently seeking a QHSE Manager to join our client's site leadership team. This is a role focused on leading and developing the site's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental framework. You will be responsible for driving a practical, risk-based approach to safety, environmental management, and operational performance, helping ensure the site maintains a safe, compliant, and efficient operation.
What you'll do:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring strict adherence to COMAH, COSHH, environmental permits, and relevant UK legislation, acting as the primary interface with regulators like the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Environment Agency.
- Process Safety & Risk: Developing and maintaining risk-based systems (COSHH, TBRA, HRA) aligned to COMAH requirements, ensuring SOPs reflect real-world site operations.
- Environmental & Health: Leading environmental monitoring, permit compliance, and workplace exposure monitoring alongside health surveillance programs.
- IMS Governance: Maintaining and continuously improving the Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, whilst owning the internal audit programme.
- Culture & Leadership: Driving a positive, practical safety culture across all levels, managing the Management of Change (MOC) process, and supporting emergency planning scenarios.
Your background:
We are looking for a practical, rigorous, and engaging leader used to managing risk within a high-hazard, regulated manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced QHSE professional looking to make a significant impact on site culture and operational excellence.
Education: A relevant professional qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) or environmental management, or a closely related technical discipline.
Technical Experience: Proven experience managing QHSE within a top or lower-tier COMAH site is essential. Direct experience with process safety, human factors, and complex risk assessments is required.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, alongside direct experience interfacing in meetings with external regulatory bodies (HSE/EA).
Skills: Robust leadership and "on-the-floor" engagement skills, with the ability to challenge norms, manage contractors, and translate complex compliance data into practical site actions.
Attributes: A methodical approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills to influence senior stakeholders, and the authority to confidently stop unsafe work when required.
