Electronics Engineer – FPGA & Test Systems
Main Purpose of the Job
We are looking for an Electronics Engineer to support both new product development and in-house test systems. This role involves working on cutting-edge technology, specifically focusing on test system electronics for advanced detector systems.
The role requires expertise in analogue signal digitisation, FPGA-based data processing, and system integration. You will be involved in developing electronics that ensure precision and performance across our product range.
Key Responsibilities
- Capturing requirements and generating design specifications
- Electronics schematic design, layout, and simulation
- Validating designs against requirements
- Defining test parameters
- System-level integration and validation
- Preparing technical documentation and reports
- Adhering to governance and quality processes
Key Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
- Degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience managing electronics design projects within cost and time constraints
- Proficiency with schematic capture tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics, Proteus, or equivalent)
- Strong ability to communicate technical information
- Evidence of organisation, planning, and cost control
- Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong communication and customer liaison skills
Desirable:
- Practical hands-on experience with circuit construction, measurement, and testing
- Knowledge of device drivers and communication protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, Camera Link)
- Experience designing with FPGA components
- Understanding of video bandwidth op-amps for low-noise applications
- Experience working with Analogue to Digital converters
- Component selection and de-rating analysis
- Practical soldering and workshop skills
- Experience within the Defence sector is advantageous
Intrinsic Factors
- Office-based role with lab work and occasional cleanroom activity
- Working to tight deadlines on a regular or ad-hoc basis
- Occasional travel within the UK and abroad, with overnight stays
- Candidates must be eligible for UK Security Check (SC) clearance, requiring UK residency for at least five years
