We are currently supporting on a new hire for a Housing Litigation Solicitor to join a highly regarded in-house legal team based in Northamptonshire. You will join an existing team and play a key role in advising the business on a wide range of housing litigation matters while managing your own caseload and supporting strategic legal decision-making across the organisation.
The Role
- Provide specialist legal advice and representation across a broad range of housing management and property litigation matters, including:
- Possession proceedings arising from rent arrears
- Breach of tenancy claims
- Anti-social behaviour and injunction proceedings
- Unauthorised occupier matters
- Housing disrepair claims and counterclaims
- Leasehold disputes and homeowner litigation
- Forfeiture proceedings
- First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) matters
- Estate management disputes
- Tenancy fraud and succession disputes
- Advise senior housing management teams on legal risk, strategy and policy matters
- Draft pleadings, witness statements, applications and court documentation
- Conduct advocacy on routine County Court matters, including possession hearings and injunction applications
- Manage external panel solicitors where required
- Deliver legal training to operational teams including Housing Management, Income Management, Homeownership and Lettings
- Support the development of best practice across the organisation
About You
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales)
- Newly Qualified to 4 years' PQE
- Experience of housing litigation, whether gained in private practice, local government or in-house
- Strong experience handling possession proceedings, particularly arrears-based claims
- Knowledge of housing management litigation and court procedures
- Ideally have experience dealing with leasehold matters, homeowner disputes and forfeiture proceedings
- Exposure to housing disrepair claims and related litigation
- Strong drafting, advocacy and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
