Associate – Projects & Construction (Contentious)
Manchester | Full time, Permanent
The opportunity
A leading national law firm is looking for a contentious construction lawyer to join its award-winning Projects & Construction practice in Manchester. This is a chance to work on some of the largest development, regeneration and mixed-use schemes in the country, with strong supervision and clear scope for progression.
The firm
This is a well-established firm with a strong national and international reputation. It is known for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and for growing the business responsibly, with ESG at the core of its strategy.
The team
The construction practice is recognised as one of the leaders in its field and is ranked by Chambers UK and Legal 500, with a number of individuals recognised as leading practitioners. It is equally at home on landmark infrastructure projects and complex regeneration deals, and offers a full “life span” service covering:
- Initial structuring and procurement advice
- Contracts, appointments, joint ventures and development agreements
- Risk management and dispute resolution
The team works closely with the firm’s real estate, tax and planning colleagues. Unlike most construction practices, it self-generates the majority of its work as well as supporting other departments. Clients include private and public sector developers, institutional investors, education sector clients and contractors.
Your role
- Advising regional and national contractors, developers, local and central government bodies and registered providers on complex construction projects
- Advising on dispute resolution, including adjudication, mediation, claims under the pre-action protocol for construction and engineering disputes, and litigation
- Advising on dispute avoidance, risk management and contractual interpretation
- Working mainly on domestic projects, with the opportunity to become involved in international matters
- Building and maintaining effective client relationships
- Taking part in marketing initiatives and the wider life of the firm, including responsible business, social impact and ED&I initiatives
About you
- Qualified solicitor with 2 years’ experience in contentious construction
- Excellent technical skills and a strong academic record
- Strong client focus and commercial awareness
- Credibility, drive and enthusiasm
- Willingness to learn and develop your understanding of the construction sector
What’s on offer
You will join a collaborative team where you are encouraged to share ideas and get involved in team initiatives. You will have strong leadership and supervision to build your knowledge of the sector locally, nationally and internationally, and the support to keep ahead of the latest industry trends.
