Your Role

As a User Experience Designer, you will be part of a growing and collaborative Digital Factory community, where knowledge and expertise are shared openly. We are passionate about user‑centred design, critical thinking, problem solving, and designing and building impactful digital services and products. You will champion inclusive design practices throughout project lifecycles, ensuring solutions are accessible to as many users as possible. This will involve engaging with diverse user research, applying accessibility guidelines and legislation, and embedding inclusive design principles into your deliverables. You will work with major clients in both the public and private sectors. Our offices are based in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Hybrid working is offered, although some travel to client sites may be required depending on the project.

As a User Experience Designer, you will:

  • Use research techniques to understand users and their needs, translating insights into user‑focused, evidence‑based design approaches.
  • Design accessible and impactful products and services for public and private sector clients.
  • Conduct user interviews, create detailed plans, analyse data, facilitate workshops, and present research findings.
  • Visualise, articulate, and solve complex problems, making evidence‑based decisions.
  • Apply technical knowledge to create interactive prototypes for products and services.
  • Resolve design‑related disputes across varying complexity and risk levels.
  • Lead and guide teams, ensuring pace and quality of delivery.
  • Work effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving environment, applying iterative and Agile methods.
  • Communicate clearly across organisational and technical boundaries, simplifying complex information for non‑technical audiences.

You will also have opportunities to contribute to:

  • Business Development – proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitches, and event participation.
  • Internal Contribution – campaign development, think‑tanks, whitepapers, recruitment, and team events.
  • Learning & Development – training, certifications, and skills development aligned to your career goals.

Your Profile

We’d like to meet someone with:

  • Strong grounding in user‑centred design from concept to delivery, with the ability to select and apply the right tools, processes, and methods in Agile teams.
  • Experience collaborating with User‑Centred Design colleagues to synthesise insights and act on findings.
  • Existing SC (Security Check) Clearance.
  • Experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and design principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant accessibility standards and legislation such as WCAG.
  • Proficiency with design tools including Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision Studio, Axure, etc.
  • Empathy and listening skills, with the ability to interpret technical and business needs for different audiences.
  • Ability to justify design decisions through evidence‑based reasoning.
  • Proven experience creating personas, service maps, wireframes, and other design artefacts.
  • Understanding of inclusive, accessible digital service design.
  • Experience in rapid paper and digital prototyping.
  • Skill in analysing HTML and CSS for accessibility issues.
