In-House Solicitor - Shared Ownership / Residential Property

12-Month FTC | Central London | Hybrid | Up to £80,000 + Benefits

The Opportunity

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a qualified Solicitor to join a London based In-House legal team on a minimum 12-month maternity contract, leading the organisation’s Shared Ownership and Residential Property team.

This is a hands-on role combining residential conveyancing expertise with team leadership, managing a team of paralegals and overseeing a varied caseload of residential property matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong residential property/conveyancing background and experience of Shared Ownership transactions, including plot sales, staircasing and resales.

Candidates from 3 years’ PQE through to more senior-level experience will be considered, provided they have the relevant technical expertise and leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of paralegals, providing day-to-day guidance, support and oversight to ensure high standards and timely delivery.
  • Manage and advise on a range of residential property and conveyancing matters, from initial instruction through to completion.
  • Oversee Shared Ownership transactions, including plot sales, resales and staircasing.
  • Handle leasehold transactions and provide practical legal advice on a range of residential property matters.
  • Support the legal work required for new residential developments, including set-up work and plot sale documentation.
  • Review and manage legal documentation, ensuring matters progress efficiently and in line with agreed timescales.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and AML obligations.
  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice and resolve complex residential property issues.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and other teams to deliver an effective and customer-focused legal service.

About You

You will be a qualified Solicitor (3 years to Senior Solicitors considered), with a background in residential property/conveyancing, ideally gained within a housing association, property developer, conveyancing practice or similar environment.

Experience of Shared Ownership is highly desirable, particularly across:

  • Plot sales
  • Shared Ownership resales
  • Staircasing
  • Leasehold transactions
  • Residential conveyancing

You will ideally have experience of managing, mentoring or supervising paralegals or junior legal professionals, with the confidence to lead a team while remaining hands-on with the legal work.

The successful candidate will be a practical and solutions-focused lawyer, able to manage competing priorities, provide clear advice and maintain high standards across a busy residential property function.

What's on Offer

  • Minimum 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave (could be extended)
  • Salary up to £80,000, depending on experience
  • Full employee benefits package
  • Hybrid working – 3 days per week in the Central London office
  • Opportunity to lead an established In-House legal function
  • A varied and hands-on residential property caseload within a supportive legal team
