We are seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support the development of a complex and high-value bid for a major Ministry of Defence (MOD) programme. This is a critical subject matter expert (SME) role, providing strategic health, safety and environmental (HSE) leadership throughout the bid process.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working at pace, managing competing priorities, and operating within a highly regulated, complex environment where compliance and operational excellence are essential.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of the Health & Safety aspects of the bid submission, ensuring full alignment with customer requirements and industry best practice.
- Provide expert HSE advice to bid teams, technical specialists and senior stakeholders.
- Develop and review HSE strategies, policies and supporting documentation for inclusion within the bid.
- Ensure proposed operational solutions meet relevant legislative, regulatory and contractual health and safety requirements.
- Contribute to risk assessments, hazard identification and mitigation strategies.
- Work collaboratively with logistics, operations, engineering and programme teams to ensure an integrated and compliant solution.
- Support customer engagement activities where specialist HSE expertise is required.
- Review bid deliverables to ensure consistency, accuracy and a strong focus on safety and compliance.
- Extensive experience as a senior Health & Safety professional or HSE Subject Matter Expert.
- Proven ability to work within complex, highly regulated environments and deliver to demanding timescales.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, governance and assurance frameworks.
- Experience supporting large-scale bids, programmes or complex operational contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Significant background in logistics, warehousing, distribution or supply chain operations.
- Previous experience working on large, high-value Warehouse Management System (WMS), distribution or logistics transformation contracts.
- Experience supporting or delivering work within the defence sector, particularly on MOD programmes.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and assurance processes for critical national infrastructure or government contracts.
- Chartered or professionally recognised HSE qualifications (e.g. CMIOSH or equivalent).
Current Security Check (SC) clearance is highly desirable. Candidates who have previously held SC clearance or are eligible to obtain it will also be considered.
