A leading international law firm is seeking to recruit a Construction Associate to join its well‑established non‑contentious construction and engineering team in Leeds. The team forms part of a broader national and international practice and advises on some of the most high‑profile development, refurbishment and infrastructure projects in the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a construction lawyer who is looking to develop their career within a collaborative, market‑leading environment, with access to complex, high‑quality work and a diverse client base.
The successful candidate will advise on a broad range of non‑contentious construction matters, including supporting colleagues across real estate, finance and corporate on major transactions. Key responsibilities will include:
- Drafting, negotiating and advising on standard form and bespoke construction documents, including JCT and NEC contracts
- Preparing and negotiating consultant appointments, building contracts, sub‑contracts and development management agreements
- Advising on collateral warranties, third‑party rights, parent company guarantees and performance security
- Supporting real estate transactions, including agreements for lease, licences for alteration and development agreements
- Advising corporate occupiers, developers, investors, funders and public sector bodies on construction risk and procurement strategy
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across offices on national and cross‑border matters
The role offers early responsibility, regular client contact and the opportunity to contribute to business development and knowledge initiatives.
You will demonstrate:
- Solid technical experience in non‑contentious construction matters
- Familiarity with industry standard forms and associated construction documentation
- Strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills
- A commercial and pragmatic approach to risk
- The ability to manage matters with appropriate supervision and confidence
- A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
- Experience advising on development or occupier‑led projects, regeneration schemes or large‑scale commercial developments would be beneficial.
