Are you a qualified mental health professional passionate about developing others and improving outcomes for children and young people?
We're looking for a Mental Health Specialist Trainer to join a growing Learning & Development team, playing a key role in equipping residential care and education staff with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to support children and young people with complex mental health, trauma-related, emotional, and behavioural needs.
The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to combine your clinical or frontline mental health expertise with training, coaching, and workforce development. You'll work closely with operational leaders and staff teams across children's residential and educational services, delivering engaging and evidence-based learning programmes that promote trauma-informed, psychologically informed, and relationship-based practice.
You'll be responsible for designing and delivering both core and bespoke training interventions, helping staff confidently support young people experiencing:
- Trauma and attachment difficulties
- Anxiety and depression
- Emotional dysregulation
- Self-injurious behaviours
- Complex emotional and behavioural presentations
- Neurodiversity and additional needs
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classroom and practical training programmes across children's residential and educational services.
- Design, adapt, and evaluate learning interventions tailored to service needs.
- Act as a mental health subject matter expert within the organisation.
- Support managers and staff teams with specialist mental health knowledge and best practice.
- Promote trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches throughout services.
- Deliver internal workshops, specialist briefings, and upskilling sessions for Learning & Development colleagues.
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
About You
We're keen to speak with professionals who have:
- A recognised qualification in a mental health-related discipline such as Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, or similar.
- At least 3 years' experience supporting children and young people with mental health needs.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and self-injurious behaviours.
- Experience within children's residential care, education, CAMHS, social care, or related environments.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex topics into practical learning.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
