Profile Criteria:

  • Solid foundation of credit analysis experience from either a banking business or a ratings agency (ideally 2-5 years)
  • Core skill set of financial/cash flow modelling, understanding of accounting and financial statement analysis, credit understanding and good presentation skills
  • Good working knowledge of banks and sovereigns
  • Degree level education and/or relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, ACT, CFA) and a track record of continued learning and development

Background:

The team’s coverage includes Banks, Sovereigns, all NBFIs (e.g. Insurance, Funds, Asset Managers, Securities Firms, Broker Dealers, Consumer Lending, etc.), Fund Finance and Securitization in all the EMEA regions.

A primary analyst on specified portfolio of Banks and/or Non-Banks, determined by regions, types of business and new transactions. Engage with Front Office professionals and provide appropriate challenge on risk issues, developing workable solutions to mitigate risk issues. Assist in management of FI credit portfolio with primary responsibility for management of credit applications and monitoring.

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise strong risk assessment methodology toward new transactions and management of a portfolio of FI clients (including Problem Assets), across a broad variety of sectors, geographies, and asset/product types, seeking guidance from more senior staff/management as appropriate.
  • Work as a trusted partner with Front Office deal teams to ensure delivery to clients whilst maintaining high credit quality.
  • Articulate Credit Department risk perception and appetite for a transaction in line with bank policy and procedures, manage the interaction and communication with front office teams, attend meetings with clients, with input from more senior colleagues where necessary.
  • Experience and capability to take a standard FI transaction from inception to approval, with some guidance and supervision where appropriate.
  • Flexibility to work to tight deadlines under pressure, including ability to work outside of contracted hours from time to time as workflow demands, to give prompt responses to customers.
  • Judgement to elevate issues to more senior colleagues where collaborating with other risk and compliance functions is appropriate to ensure enterprise-wide view of risk is considered.
  • Assist other members of the team by proactively taking work in a manner which ensures work is fairly distributed, particularly in times of strong workflow/staff absences.
  • Develop relationships within the team: seek guidance and advice from colleagues; express well-reasoned arguments and influence senior management; and assist in recruitment and training of more junior staff.
  • Willingness/flexibility to be involved in ad hoc projects supporting the strategy of FI credit team and the wider department/institution.
  • Draw on own expertise and professional knowledge and that of colleagues to assist in developing innovative solutions/improvements to status quo.
  • Exemplify strong credit management and analytical skills, sharing experience to assist in the professional development of colleagues, and build expertise within the team.

Experience and Competencies:

  • Degree level education and/or relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, ACT, CFA), and a track record of continued learning and development.
  • Experience in a credit management role within a major international bank or ratings agency.
  • Preference for candidates with strong exposure to emerging markets, including Middle East and Africa.
  • Preference for candidates who have seen a number of different products/transaction types and have some experience of varying credit market conditions.
  • Good working knowledge of Banks, Sovereigns, and Non-Bank FIs.
  • High level of IT literacy, strong written and verbal communication skills (supporting preparation of succinct and focused credit papers), and strong interpersonal skills (supporting collaboration/teamwork).
  • Some experience of problem asset management/work-outs and experience within a Front Office role is desirable.
  • Have begun to develop a network of professional relationships within the financial, legal and corporate communities and up-to-date knowledge of trends in FI credit markets across EMEA.
