Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced PDI & LOLER Technician to join our powered access manufacturing operation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), LOLER inspections, testing, fault diagnosis and final quality checks on a range of powered access equipment prior to customer delivery.

This role is suited to a technically capable engineer with a strong understanding of MEWPs and mobile elevating work platforms, who takes pride in delivering safe, reliable and compliant machines to customers.

The role will involve working closely with manufacturing, operations, quality and service teams to ensure that machines meet the required manufacturer, legislative and companystandards before leaving the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • PDI & Final Inspection
  • Carry out thorough Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on newly manufactured powered access equipment.
  • Inspect machines against manufacturer specifications, build documentation and quality standards.
  • Check mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and structural systems.
  • Verify correct operation of safety systems, controls, emergency lowering systems and interlocks.
  • Complete functional and operational testing of machines.
  • Identify manufacturing defects, assembly issues and faults prior to dispatch.
  • Record inspection results accurately and ensure all required documentation is completed.
  • Liaise with service and operations teams to resolve defects and ensure machines are released to the required standard.
  • LOLER Inspection & Testing
  • Undertake LOLER Thorough Examinations and associated inspections in accordance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Inspect lifting components, structures, attachments and safety-critical systems.
  • Carry out functional and operational tests as required.
  • Identify defects that could affect the safe use of equipment.
  • Produce accurate inspection reports and clearly communicate any defects or remedial requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is correctly certified before being released for delivery or use.
  • Maintain a high level of independence and integrity when making safety-critical inspection decisions.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults identified during PDI and LOLER inspections.
  • Work with service department to identify root causes of defects.
  • Support investigations into recurring faults and quality issues.
  • Recommend corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all inspections and testing are undertaken in accordance with applicable legislation, standards and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain a strong focus on machine safety and operational reliability.
  • Always follow company health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and certification records.
  • Ensure testing equipment and inspection tools are maintained and calibrated where required.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with powered access equipment / MEWPs or similar lifting equipment.
  • Practical experience carrying out PDI, LOLER inspections, testing or commissioning.
  • Strong mechanical and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems and electrical fault diagnosis.
  • Strong understanding of safe working practices and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to accurately complete technical documentation and inspection reports.
  • Relevant engineering qualification, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent.
