We operate in 3 key categories: Animal sports medication and doping control, Human drug testing, and Supplement testing and product certification.
Are you driven to make a meaningful impact in the world of analytical chemistry? We are seeking a Senior Scientist (Analytical Chemist) to join our dynamic Supplements and Feeds team, based in Fordham, Cambridgeshire. Working as part of a large team, you will undertake innovative analysis across a wide range of complex product matrices. You will play a key role in testing products for substances prohibited in sport, as well as supporting analytical testing procedures associated with LGC’s “Informed” certification programmes. The position also involves interpreting, presenting, and discussing analytical results with customers and key stakeholders. You will work closely with our Account Management and Programme Management teams to deliver high‑quality scientific support to our clients. LGC’s testing and "Informed" certification programmes underpin trust for elite athletes, manufacturers, and consumers worldwide, helping to ensure the highest standards of quality, integrity, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing extraction techniques – Solid phase extraction, liquid/liquid and automated liquid handling.
- Using high‑spec analytical instrumentation for chromatography and mass spectrometry – GC‑MS/MS, LC‑MS/MS and HRAM.
- Conducting elemental analysis for carbon and nitrogen using combustion analysers.
- Critical assessment and appraisal of analytical data, using applications such as TraceFinder and Masshunter, and presentation / interpretation of results.
- Direct customer contact providing project updates, reporting of results and where required, scientific support / explanation.
- Leadership within the laboratory and management of scientific programmes / work schedules.
- Strictly adhering to protocols within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory – always promoting good laboratory practices and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of BSc in Chemistry (or equivalent experience) and experience of working within a commercial analytical laboratory.
- Proven hands‑on experience with LC‑MS and GC‑MS techniques, with the ability to troubleshoot system problems.
- Experience with high‑resolution accurate mass (HRAM) is desirable.
- Established knowledge of ISO 17025 or other relevant quality standard.
- Proven planning and organisational skills.
- Experience of CI/Lean practices is desirable.
- Proven communication and training skills.
