LGC is an international leader in the extended life sciences sector, with the operating division LGC Standards being the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor of reference materials and proficiency testing schemes. We are recruiting a Customs Administrator, based in Bury, UK.
Job Purpose
To coordinate and create special requirement paperwork for international shipments, including key accounts, as well as taking ownership of the packing of special requirement shipments. To deal with dangerous goods paperwork. To provide administration assistance for the Despatch team. To monitor the Despatch inbox and provide prompt replies to other teams (onsite Monday - Friday).
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- To monitor the Special Requirements Despatch Outlook inbox, action or assign the emails and ensure prompt responses.
- To liaise with the Customer Services team to understand and agree despatch paperwork changes for specific customers/distributors (with relevant manager escalation where necessary).
- To implement agreed paperwork changes from a system point of view.
- To ensure that the Special Requirements database is kept up-to-date.
- To focus on the packing of special requirement shipments to ensure that all requirements are included.
- To scan in the special requirements paperwork as soon as possible after the despatch of the samples and the relevant parties informed.
- To provide on-going analysis to streamline the international paperwork process and generate innovative solutions.
- To coordinate the tracking of requirements by customer, country, scheme to ensure compliance and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- To understand and coordinate the robotic automation processes (where required).
- To produce despatch schedules.
- To provide training to relevant staff members on best practice.
- Attend courses to acquire and maintain dangerous goods qualification.
- Prepare and print dangerous goods paperwork to ensure that LGC Bury is compliant with either IATA and/or ADR shipping regulations.
- To produce manual air waybills.
- To place purchase requisitions for items needed for the Despatch Department.
- Organise the collection and delivery of goods via international and national carriers, including third party collections.
- To arrange ad-hoc collections of raw material and pallets, etc.
- Perform the duties of other staff in their absence and assist other staff when necessary.
- To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with defined company procedures and statutory requirements, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, etc.
- Carry out any additional duties or tasks as directed that are commensurate with the role and position.
Person Specification
- A general good level of secondary education or relevant experience.
- A background in despatch administration / coordination.
- Trained in IATA regulations (preferable but not essential).
- Experience working with different document types, paperwork and invoices.
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills, ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent command of English, written and oral.
- Methodical and precise approach.
- Good communication skills.

Qualifications
- A minimum of four 'GCSE' passes.
- Relevant previous work experience, preferably in a despatch/warehouse environment.

- Proven ability to work to and achieve set deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
