LGC ASSURE Sports & Specialised Analytical Services is an internationally recognised world‑class testing laboratory that specialises in banned substance and anti‑doping testing. We operate in 3 key categories: Animal sports medication and doping control, Human drug testing, and Supplement testing and product certification.
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, proactive Senior Scientist (Analytical Chemist) to join our Animal Sports Confirmatory team. As part of our confirmatory analysis team, you will provide a high‑quality analytical chemistry service to customers such as the BHA, IHRB, FEI, and GBGB helping to ensure the highest standards of quality, integrity, and welfare in animal sports. Confirmatory analysis is designed to test samples for the presence of the suspected drug, to a standard of legal proof. This includes planning and conducting individual work (sample extraction, analysis, data processing and case file report writing) in accordance with the requirements of ISO17025. You will also provide expert witness testimony evidence where necessary.
Tasks include:
- Performing, developing and troubleshooting new extraction techniques – solid phase extraction, liquid/liquid extractions etc.
- Using high‑spec analytical instrumentation for chromatography and mass spectrometry – GC‑MS/MS, LC‑MS/MS and HRAMS.
- Critical assessment and appraisal of analytical data, using applications such as Xcalibur, Sciex OS and MassLynx, and presentation / interpretation of results.
- Direct customer contact for reporting results.
- Leadership within the laboratory and management of scientific programmes / work schedules.
- Strictly adhering to protocols within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory - always promoting good laboratory practices and quality standards.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of BSc in Chemistry (or equivalent experience) and experience of working within a commercial analytical laboratory.
- Proven hands‑on experience with LC‑MS and GC‑MS techniques, with the ability to troubleshoot system problems.
- Experience with high‑resolution accurate mass (HRAMS) is desirable.
- Established knowledge of ISO 17025 or other relevant quality standard.
- Proven planning and organisational skills.
- Proven communication skills.
