Job Description
The opportunity
This role is central to strengthening and scaling LGC’s external voice and driving our impact globally. You will translate complex science into compelling narratives that demonstrate how we help the world diagnose, treat, feed and protect, delivering them consistently across channels to drive visibility and measurable impact across media, digital and corporate platforms. Working closely with the Director of Brand and Corporate Communications, you will help shape LGC’s external communications agenda with clarity, consistency and high standards. The role combines strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery and requires strong alignment between external and internal communications across a complex, global organisation. Whilst primarily externally focused, success depends on effective collaboration with internal stakeholders. This is a role for someone who thrives in a high‑performing, fast‑paced environment and takes pride in delivering communications to a consistently high standard.
Key responsibilities
- Drive external visibility and media impact
- Develop and execute integrated external communications plans aligned to business and growth priorities
- Lead communications for major milestones including launches, site openings and strategic announcements
- Build and maintain strong journalist relationships, securing relevant and high‑quality coverage
- Strengthen LGC’s positioning across priority markets and audiences
- Support reputation management and issues response in partnership with senior stakeholders
- Deliver integrated communications programmes that connect external visibility with clear, engaging internal communications
Narrative and content development
- Shape clear, differentiated narratives that reinforce LGC’s mission and scientific impact
- Produce high‑quality content including press releases, thought leadership, executive messaging and campaign assets
- Translate complex scientific and technical topics into accessible, impact‑led stories
- Partner effectively with senior stakeholders and subject matter experts across the business
Digital performance and delivery
- Manage and optimise website content to improve engagement, visibility and user experience
- Lead and evolve social media activity with defined objectives and measurable outcomes
- Use analytics and insights to evaluate channel effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
- Ensure alignment between corporate narrative, employer brand and external visibility
- Contribute to a disciplined and well‑organised Communications function through strong planning and execution
Qualifications

- Significant experience in external or corporate communications within a science‑led, healthcare, life sciences or complex B2B environment
- Exceptional storytelling ability and confidence in simplifying complex concepts
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how communications support growth
- Proven media relations experience and a track record of securing meaningful coverage
- Experience managing digital channels with a data‑informed approach
- Confidence advising senior leaders and influencing across functions
- High energy, resilience and the ability to perform calmly under pressure
- A creative mindset, with the ability to translate strategic priorities into engaging, audience‑first communications
