Environmental and Sustainability Manager
Willmott Dixon is seeking an Environmental and Sustainability Manager to support the East Midlands region. Based at our Nottingham office, the role will require regular travel to sites, and some hybrid working. Your primary focus will be to work closely with project teams to provide environmental support and expertise at all stages of our projects from work winning to completion.
You will join our award-winning multidisciplinary Sustainability Team and report to the Regional Sustainability Lead for the Construction Midlands business.
The role includes supporting the delivery of our ambitious Now or Never Sustainability Strategy as well as engaging with supply chain partners and customers to identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
You will also lead the implementation of our Risk Management System across projects as well as ensuring our people are engaged, trained, and competent to deliver our environmental ambitions.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter, invigorated by challenges, and thrive in an empowered environment that values initiative and innovative thinking. Good communication and relationship management skills are a must, coupled with an energetic interest in environmental sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Providing specialist environmental support to the business.
- Compliance and achievement of Group, Division, Company, project, procedures, personal targets, and initiatives for environmental impact reduction.
- Ensuring that our Environmental Risk Management System is implemented, controlled, and maintained helping to achieve and maintain certification of the company ISO 14001:2015 management system.
- Develop a culture within the business that is supportive of our sustainability and environmental ambitions.
- Ensure that environmental and sustainability KPIs are accurately submitted in a timely manner on my projects, provide analysis of data to improve performance against environmental targets.
- Provide technical environmental input into project winning bids, and assistance with business strategy and project planning.
- Oversee compliance through audit and control and work with the business to develop an attractive communications approach.
- Upskill and coach project teams on managing environmental risk.
- Assist with reviewing and managing our approach to delivering certifiable sustainable assessment methodologies - e.g. BREEAM, FitWell, and WELL
- Previous experience in an environmental role in the construction industry.
- Experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Understanding, practical application and pervious experience of maintaining ISO14001 certification.
- Demonstrable experience in environmental management and regulatory compliance.
- Good working knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Valid driving licence.
- Sustainability experience such as understanding and working knowledge of of carbon reduction, waste management, energy efficiency, water use, biodiversity, and resource efficiency.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental management, environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline.
