Senior Power BI Developer

Location: London / Hybrid (1 day/week onsite)

Contract Duration: 3 Months

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

About the Role

A high-profile organisation is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to deliver robust reporting and analytics solutions across their core operations. Focusing primarily on Finance and Retail data streams, you will own the end-to-end Power BI lifecycle, from refining data models using Star Schema principles to deploying performant, production-ready dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Analytics: Design, build, and maintain scalable Power BI dashboards and semantic models that translate business needs into intuitive reporting.
  • Architecture & Optimization: Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to evaluate performance bottlenecks and determine whether metrics should be calculated in Power BI or upstream in the ETL platform.
  • Data Integration: Query and integrate data across diverse environments, including Databricks, SQL Server, Azure, REST APIs, and SharePoint.
  • Advanced Modelling: Build complex DAX measures, KPIs, and Power Query (M) transformations to support robust decision-making.
  • Governance & Security: Manage datasets, refresh schedules, and Row-Level Security (RLS) within Power BI Service to maintain data accuracy and integrity.

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record as a Senior Power BI Contractor delivering enterprise-level solutions.
  • Commercial experience building reporting solutions focused on Finance and Retail data.
  • Advanced hands-on expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and SQL (T-SQL).
  • Strong data modelling expertise using Star Schema principles.
  • Experience querying Databricks structures and integrating modern cloud data architectures.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business units.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with the wider Azure data ecosystem (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL) or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Exposure to DevOps workflows (Git, CI/CD for BI deployments).
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300).
  • Power Platform integration experience (Power Apps / Power Automate).
  • Experience working within Agile or iterative delivery environments.
