The Role
The Junior Quantitative Market Risk Analyst is an entry-level role in the Market Risk department, focusing on market risk management and quantitative analysis. You will work with a global team to analyze client trading behavior, assess risk, and develop quantitative models for pricing and risk management across various asset classes, including FX, metals, crypto, and more.
Responsibilities include:
- Researching and back-testing analytical models, enhancing internal risk methodologies, and developing tools for market risk monitoring.
- Providing vital analytical support to the Head of Market Risk - EMEA, engaging in pricing analysis, and collaborating closely with trading and development teams.
- Staying updated on market trends and industry developments to support the firm’s market risk framework evolution.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the design and implementation of data-driven quantitative strategies within a fast-paced brokerage trading environment.
- Assisting in the preparation of risk reports and analyses for the Head of Market Risk, General Manager – Operations, Risk and Analytics, Senior Management, and other stakeholders.
- Research, develop, and back-test quantitative models for pricing, hedging, and risk management across multiple asset classes, including FX, metals, crypto, energies, and equities.
- Develop, test, and maintain internal tools that automate trading operations and improve team efficiency.
- Monitor the performance of live models and systems, proactively identifying issues and implementing enhancements to optimize results.
- Supporting the monitoring of the group’s overall market risk to ensure adherence to risk limits.
- Collaborating with senior team members to contribute to the management and reduction of group risk through financial instruments.
- Highlighting potential issues or risks to the Head of Operations, Head of Market Risk, or global compliance functions for review and resolution.
- Aiding with the monitoring of back-end pricing systems and infrastructure to ensure smooth operations.
- Conducting research and contributing to analyses of Pepperstone’s pricing and competitor offerings, while suggesting potential improvements or opportunities.
- Assisting in reviewing potential new products and conducting market research to inform decision-making.
- Supporting clear and transparent communication with stakeholders regarding products, market events, and risks.
- Helping to identify and escalate potential cases of market abuse or malicious trading activities to the compliance team.
- Assisting in the assessment of client trading activities to support effective risk management decisions and counterparty allocation.
- Working closely with senior team members on tasks such as best execution reporting, trade reporting, and fulfilling other regulator requirements.
About you:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn for data manipulation, analysis, and model building.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, multi-task, prioritise and meet strict deadlines.
- Sharp problem-solving skills with a keen interest in applying rigorous quantitative techniques to financial markets.
- Strong communication skills, combined with a collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn in a team-oriented setting.
- A foundational understanding of financial markets with an eagerness to deepen knowledge.
