The Team

The Data and AI division at Man Group is dedicated to ensuring the business can generate valuable insights from data. The division owns the sourcing, delivery and analytics of traditional and alternative data to our investment teams, as well as developing and supporting Man Group's central data platform. The division is also responsible for the development of generative AI tooling to drive innovation and accelerate business processes. The function seeks to unlock the value in data by partnering with investment teams to source new and diversifying datasets and build scalable evaluation methods and insights. The core value which unifies us is a passion to utilise science, technology, and data to enhance our investment and business processes.

The Role

As a Data Scientist, you will be embedded within Man Group's Responsible Investment (RI) function — working day-to-day alongside the RI research, stewardship and investment teams to deliver data-driven insights. In this role you will acquire, wrangle, map and analyse large structured and unstructured RI and sustainability datasets, acting as a subject matter expert at the intersection of data science and responsible investment. Work spans the full data lifecycle and is delivered through self-managed projects in close collaboration with the RI team and the wider Data & AI division.

Role Responsibilities

  • Partner with the RI team to identify data opportunities across RI scoring, climate risk, stewardship and sustainable investing — proposing creative use cases and recommending datasets to enhance RI research and investment processes.
  • Acquire, transform and analyse large, inconsistent and unstructured RI and sustainability datasets from third-party vendors and alternative sources.
  • Research company-level RI KPIs, perform statistical tests and draft research reports to maintain a searchable internal knowledge base for RI and investment teams.
  • Support and enhance Man Group's proprietary RI tools and datasets, helping to scale and improve data quality, coverage and analytical capability.
  • Build proof-of-concept data products and AI-driven tools for RI use cases, collaborating with technology to productionise them.
  • Stay informed on industry trends in RI data, climate science, sustainable finance regulation and alternative data relevant to responsible investment.
  • Advise clients on the availability of RI datasets and help build bespoke data solutions that meet their sustainability goals.
  • Work alongside other data scientists on team-wide OKRs spanning from acquiring novel datasets to creating analytical tooling.

Key Competencies

Essential

  • 5+ years of proven experience in data wrangling, statistical techniques and data visualisation.
  • Previous experience working with RI data, sustainability datasets or climate analytics.
  • Passionate about RI and sustainability with an entrepreneurial mindset — eager to develop deep domain expertise, understand investment strategies and proactively push data-driven solutions.
  • Proficient in the Python data science stack (Pandas, NumPy, Spark, Matplotlib).
  • Working knowledge of Snowflake, Linux/UNIX, Git, Jira.
  • Embracing agentic engineering — willingness and ability to work effectively with AI-assisted development tools as part of daily workflow.
  • Ability to present technical results and concepts to non-technical audiences, including RI stakeholders, investment professionals and clients.
  • Comfortable working in an agile, iterative environment — able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and deliver incrementally.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data quality and analytical rigour.
  • Strong academic record with a degree in a STEM field.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with investment professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with RI frameworks and standards (e.g. SFDR, TCFD, GSIA definitions, EU Taxonomy).
