Instinet are looking for a data centre engineer, based in London, to be responsible for all their European data centre and colocation sites. Across all sites the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of data centre infrastructure, installation, troubleshooting, environmental monitoring and asset management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain servers, networking hardware, and storage systems, including upgrades, within the data centres.
  • Incident Management: Act as a point of contact for incidents or emergencies in the data center, providing swift and efficient resolutions.
  • Break Fix: Assist system owners in problem solving, including out-of-hours support and interacting with Remote Hands where required.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Using existing tools to monitor and manage power, cooling, space usage in all locations, ensuring we remain within contracted limits.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure that the data centre environment adheres to industry best practices, security protocols, and compliance standards.
  • Vendor Management: Ensure the relevant vendors maintain environmental specifications and SLA’s and maintain good working relationships with each.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of systems, processes, and configurations using existing tools.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other teams and stakeholders such as Unix, Networks, Storage to ensure smooth operations and address issues.
Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required
  • Significant recent experience of working in data centres dealing with the install and deinstall of various hardware.
  • Strong experience of data centre cabling, including structured fibre and copper.
  • Familiarity with current Dell & HP servers along with Cisco & Arista network hardware.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Visio, Confluence and Jira would be an advantage.
  • Strong planning skills, including collaborating and working with other teams and externally.
  • Experienced in the accurate documentation of records for data centres such as diagrams, work requests, asset recording and patching.
  • Ability to work out of hours unsupervised.
Job Knowledge, Qualifications and Education
  • Previous experience in related fields.
  • Experience with Excel, Visio, Confluence, Jira, Nlyte, ServiceNow, and Device42 preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to learn and communicate technical information.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in-order to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
