Project Manager – Power & Substations

Location: UK Wide (Travel Required) Salary: £50,000 – £54,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join a growing contractor specialising in the Power & Substations sector, delivering projects throughout the UK.

Operating within the Transmission & Distribution industry, the business provides a complete in-house solution encompassing design, manufacture, fabrication, mechanical installation and project delivery for electrical substations and associated infrastructure.

Their expertise includes structural steelwork, primary plant installation, above and below ground earthing, and complete substation construction packages.

The Role

As Project Manager, you'll be responsible for managing multiple Power & Substation projects across the UK, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with Directors, Site Managers, Engineers, clients and subcontractors, you'll oversee projects from initial planning through to commissioning and final handover.

The position will involve regular travel throughout the UK, with accommodation and expenses provided where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the successful delivery of Power & Substation projects nationwide.
  • Oversee project delivery from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate Site Managers, Engineers, subcontractors and specialist installation teams.
  • Manage project programmes, labour allocation, plant and material procurement.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Liaise directly with clients and attend regular progress meetings.
  • Monitor commercial performance alongside the commercial team.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications and construction programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
  • Produce project reports and maintain accurate site documentation.
  • Support testing, commissioning and project close-out activities.
  • Build long-term relationships with clients and identify opportunities for repeat business.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager with a background delivering projects within the Power, Utilities, Electrical Infrastructure or Transmission & Distribution sectors.

You'll be confident managing multiple stakeholders, commercially aware and capable of delivering technically challenging projects across the UK.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience as a Project Manager within construction or utilities.
  • Background delivering electrical infrastructure, power or substation projects.
  • Strong programme and resource management skills.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and direct labour.
  • Commercial awareness and budget management.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong Health & Safety knowledge.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK.

Desirable Experience

National Grid or DNO project experience.

High Voltage or Substation construction experience.

Structural steel, mechanical installation or electrical infrastructure knowledge.

Transmission & Distribution sector experience.

  • £50,000 – £54,000 basic salary (depending on experience).
  • OT at 1.33x for hours over 8 Mon-Fri
  • OT at 1.5x for Saturdays
  • OT at 2x for Sundays (providing 8 hours has been worked on the Saturday)
