The Menswear Assistant Designer will play a pivotal role in supporting the team in the creation and development of innovative designs. This position involves collaborating closely with the Account Manager to translate concepts into practical designs, taking into consideration functionality, style, and market trends. The Assistant Designer will assist in the selection of fabrics, colours, and finishes, contribute to the creation of technical specifications, and support the overall design process from initial concept through to final sample approval. By combining a passion for fashion with a keen understanding of performance and comfort, the Assistant Designer will help deliver high-quality products, ensuring alignment with brand vision and consumer expectations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Assist senior designers in the conceptualisation and creation of product ranges.
- Translate design ideas and concepts into sketches, technical drawings, and digital illustrations using design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Create and maintain detailed technical specification (tech) packs to communicate designs to manufacturers.
- Conduct regular market research to identify current trends, competitor products, and consumer preferences across the relevant product category.
- Assist in the sourcing and selection of fabrics and trims.
- Collaborate with the design team and customers to ensure we are using the latest trend information.
- Assist in preparing product presentations and lookbooks for internal reviews and external exhibitions, detailing the collection's concept, designs, and inspiration.
- Support in showcasing the collection during sales meetings and trade shows.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including tech, production, and merchandising, to ensure alignment on objectives and timelines.
- Communicate effectively with customers and territories regarding design specifications and production timelines.
- Assist in managing design timelines and deadlines, ensuring projects stay on track and are completed timely.
- Support the organisation of design files, samples, and documentation for easy access and collaboration.
- Monitor the quality of samples received, ensuring they meet both design and production standards.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to address and resolve any quality issues during production.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of fabrics, garment construction techniques, pattern making, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Awareness of production processes and quality standards in the fashion industry.
- Familiarity with 3D design tools (e.g., CLO 3D) can be an added advantage.
