Menswear Assistant Designer at Li & Fung. This role supports the design team by translating concepts into practical designs, collaborating closely with the Account Manager, and handling all aspects from initial concept through final sample approval.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior designers in conceptualising and creating product ranges.
- Translate design ideas into sketches, technical drawings, and digital illustrations using design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Create and maintain detailed technical specification (tech) packs to communicate designs to manufacturers.
- Conduct regular market research to identify trends, competitor products and consumer preferences.
- Assist in sourcing and selecting fabrics, trims and finishes.
- Collaborate with the design team and customers to incorporate the latest trend information.
- Prepare product presentations and lookbooks for internal reviews and external exhibitions.
- Support showcasing the collection during sales meetings and trade shows.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams (tech, production, merchandising) to ensure alignment on objectives and timelines.
- Communicate design specifications and production timelines to customers and territories.
- Assist in managing design timelines and deadlines to keep projects on track.
- Support organisation of design files, samples, and documentation for easy access and collaboration.
- Monitor the quality of samples received and ensure they meet design and production standards.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to resolve quality issues during production.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of fabrics, garment construction techniques, pattern making and technical specification drafting.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Awareness of production processes and quality standards in the fashion industry.
- Familiarity with 3D design tools (e.g., CLO 3D) is an advantage.
