About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a News Taxonomist to join our Global News & Business Taxonomies & Indexing team. This entry-level role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in current affairs, emerging topics, and evolving language who wants to build a career in taxonomy and data enrichment. Through structured training, hands-on experience, mentoring, and collaboration, you will develop expertise in taxonomy development, semantic enrichment, and AI-supported knowledge work across global News and Business content.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to design, develop, and maintain taxonomy structures across subjects, industries, geographies, people, and events under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Gain proficiency in creating and refining classification rules, including synonyms, variants, and scope guidance, through structured training and practical experience.
  • Build experience reviewing and refining classification to optimise search precision and recall.
  • Develop the ability to analyse global news and business content to identify emerging topics and evolving terminology that may require taxonomy updates.
  • Research and help define new concepts, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with established taxonomy standards.
  • Use AI tools to support taxonomy and knowledge work while learning to critically evaluate AI-generated output for quality, accuracy, and appropriate use.
  • Contribute to taxonomy standards, documentation, and best practices as your experience and expertise grow.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across a global team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in global news, current events, business, economics, or geopolitics.
  • Excellent command of written English.
  • Strong analytical thinking and research skills.
  • Aptitude for recognising patterns and organising information consistently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.
  • Interest in AI and how it can be leveraged safely and ethically in knowledge work.
  • Exposure to taxonomy development, metadata management, content classification, or library work.
  • Relevant academic study or transferable experience related to information, language, research, journalism, humanities, social sciences, or a similar field.
