The Cell Press journal Patterns is looking for a Scientific Editor to join us. Launched in 2020, Patterns publishes impactful research across the full breadth of data science, including cutting edge technical advances, and insightful analysis and commentary. The journal is fully open access and dedicated to promoting open, reproducible science.
About the Role
The Scientific Editor will be closely involved in all editorial aspects of the journal. Candidates located in and with the right-to-work in the UK, Germany, USA, or China are encouraged to apply. While we can potentially offer flexibility in location, there would be advantages for candidates based in proximity to our offices in London or Oxford UK; Munich, Germany; Medford, USA; or Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, China.
Responsibilities:
- Rigorously evaluating submissions against Patterns' demanding requirements
- Building global networks and commissioning world-leading submissions
- Contributing to and implementing a journal strategy that ensures Patterns remains topical, distinctive, impactful and agenda-setting
- Collaborating with Cell Press colleagues to broaden our footprint and ensure we continue to meet the needs of the research communities we serve
Requirements:
- Have a Masters or PhD-level degree and published research in data science, machine learning, statistics, artificial intelligence or a related research area
- Enthusiasm for and knowledge of open science and reproducible research
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to edit and improve scientific text
- A willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research
- Prior editorial experience is desirable but not essential
