About the Role
The Exhibition Manager is responsible for the strategic development, commercial performance, and growth of a portfolio of exhibitions, ensuring strong customer value and brand success. Reporting to the Portfolio Director, they lead event strategy, identify growth opportunities through customer insights, and develop new products, services, and brand extensions to meet market needs. Working within a matrix structure, the Exhibition Manager collaborates with Sales, Marketing, Commercial, and Operations teams, acting as the central lead for the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of events. With full P&L responsibility of up to $5 million, they drive revenue growth, manage financial performance, and deliver high-quality events that achieve business objectives and exceptional customer outcomes. The role also requires occasional international travel to attend industry, adjacent, and competitor events, supporting market intelligence, innovation, and future portfolio growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop, communicate and promote the core Value Propositions of the event and champion the event within RX, RELX and the broader market and customer bases
- Complete Event Value Plans and use them as the core briefing document for all matrix supporting teams
- Conduct industry and event SWOT analysis, competitor analysis and market positioning exercises
- Research market trends and maintain a deep understanding of industry developments with a focus on 3-5 year trends
- Drive year-on-year customer satisfaction improvements through a focus on value delivery, innovation and product development initiatives
- Deliver strategic targets, annual budgets, forecasts, reporting and management of matrix team spend trackers, including P&L responsibility
- Lead event delivery including venue management, floorplan ownership, show features, partner and association management, registration and survey oversight
- Effectively lead and influence cross-functional matrix teams to ensure the delivery of an exemplary event experience
Requirements
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and experience managing budgets, forecasts and profit and loss performance
- Experience leading teams in a matrix organisational design structure or familiarity with matrix management principles
- Ability to communicate with conviction and authenticity across a wide range of stakeholders
- Confidence to take considered risks, challenge thinking and support innovation
- Strong strategic and operational planning capabilities
- Ability to analyse data, conduct research and absorb complex information to identify trends and opportunities
- Experience managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, including partners and associations
- Creative problem-solving skills with a track record of identifying new ways to capture value and improve customer outcomes
