Purpose of the Job

Develop, manage, and execute a customer-focused content publishing strategy for electronic/print clinical review periodicals and other clinical content in the individual and institutional markets. Clearly define the content development plan, including text, format, and multimedia components for all applicable modes of delivery. Accountable for the on-time delivery of product, management and achievement of budget, schedules, reporting, and contract negotiation. Engage in product and process innovation.

Key Result Areas

  • Content Strategy
    • In collaboration with Publisher, develop, manage, and execute an individual/institutional publishing strategy that includes print and electronic solutions. Ensure customer needs are met and content currency goals are achieved for assigned specialties.
    • Leverage existing content and platforms to maximize return on investment.
    • Create innovative approaches to content types and delivery to drive increased revenue and distribution of content.
    • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders; consider global and local content needs as well as content gaps when developing content strategy.
    • Monitor and identify new opportunities to enhance/expand our content electronically.
    • Research new topic areas for product line expansion and create proposals built on data analysis.
  • In-depth Customer and Market Knowledge
    • Gain an in-depth understanding of the issues, trends, needs, and preferences of user base in order to provide high-quality information resources.
    • Engage in regular and systematic user research to inform content strategy including, but not limited to, sustained social media engagement in topic areas relating to your portfolio.
    • Develop a network of high-quality contacts; identify potential authors/editors, current and emerging opinion leaders, and clinicians.
    • Maintain a strong knowledge of competitive offerings in both print and electronic format.
    • Keep abreast of the changing healthcare and technology landscape and the impact these changes have on user needs, content accessibility, and usage.
    • Attend appropriate medical conferences, author/editor meetings, product/technology information sessions, healthcare institutions.
  • Content Usage
    • Gain a deep understanding of content usage to inform strategy.
    • Conduct user surveys and focus groups to gauge usefulness and need for content, features, and functionality.
  • Control of Budgets, Schedules, Contracts
    • Responsible for keeping products on budget, maximizing revenue opportunity, and reducing costs while maintaining consistent high quality.
    • Preparing year-end financial analyses for assigned products.
    • Establishing editor contractual obligations that are in keeping with the approved financial product plan.
    • Development and production schedules; work with colleagues to ensure that manuscripts are delivered on schedule and issues are published in cover month.
  • Collaboration
    • Collaborate with Content Development and Production to develop and create global products in keeping with the defined strategy.
    • Work with Marketing and Sales to promote products and collaborate in the development of marketing plans, including participation in conferences and trade shows.
