About the Role
We're looking for an Engineer to join our growing Data Platform team. In this role, you'll help support and evolve cloud-based database platforms that power critical services, while developing your expertise across cloud infrastructure, automation, reliability, performance engineering, and Infrastructure as Code. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and stakeholders to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable solutions in a modern AWS environment.
Responsibilities
- Help operate and evolve highly available cloud database platforms hosted in AWS.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, resilient, and secure systems.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges alongside experienced engineers.
- Monitor, analyse, and optimise database and platform performance.
- Automate operational processes using Infrastructure as Code and modern DevOps practices.
- Support backup, recovery and business continuity capabilities.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies that improve platform performance, stability, and security.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, security teams, and business stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
Requirements
- Experience in database engineering, cloud platform operations, or a related infrastructure engineering discipline.
- Cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Relational database technologies including MySQL and Aurora.
- Database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, back-up and recovery.
- Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform and Ansible.
- Linux administration and scripting or programming skills, ideally Python.
- Version control technologies such as Git.
- Security best practices and their practical application in platform design and operations.
