Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Possess an associate's degree from an accredited college;
  • Have earned 60 semester hours (or the equivalent) from an accredited college;
  • Have GED or high school diploma and passing score on ParaPro test prior to employment.

Must also have initiative, knowledge and understanding of adolescent-age students, the ability and willingness to collaborate with others, the ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with policy, and the ability to accept individual differences among students.

Job Goal: Under limited supervision and through administrative and media specialist support, coordinate activities to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the school media center.

Reports To: Principal

This position is shared between Sandhills Primary School and Sandhills Elementary School.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide a well organized, smoothly functioning learning environment
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to support research and collaborative work
  • Check books in and out for students
  • Supervise and assist students while in the media center
  • Ensure proper shelving and presentation of all media center print resources
  • Maintain effective bookkeeping functions for student fees and fines
  • Maintain inventory of multi-media and instructional technology equipment and resources
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with certified teachers, parents and administration
  • Participate in staff development and training to learn and update skills related to the position
  • Assist administration and staff with various administrative / clerical functions as requested
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal

Physical Requirements: Requires light work that involves walking, bending, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. May also be required to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.

Terms of Employment: 185 days on Classified Salary Schedule Grade 7 or Grade 8 (Associate's degree or higher)

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board's Policy.
